2008 Draft discussion

So which types of players should we draft this year?

Which particular youngsters are you keen on?

Assuming we use 4 picks, I think we need to draft a key forward with our first, a quick small forward with our second, another quick mid with our third and a ruckman to back up Currie and Jolly with our last pick. Perhaps a mature age ruckman would be good, someone who can come straight in if Jolly or Currie gets injured.

I still reckon Roos will go best available with our first rounder. Thankfully the best available may be a KP player. Shaun McKernan (KP/Ruckman) and Lewis Johnstone (KP Forward) should be available around that pick.

Chris Yarran may be available with pick 12 as well. Could add alot of class to our midfield and not to mention is a massive Swans fan. But he has the talent to justify a first rounder.

2nd rounder may go to best available as well but our 3rd and 4th etc will most likely go to needs which obviously are KP players.

We should have a look at a WA bloke called Hayden Ballantyne. He's a small forward who has just won the Sandover medal for the best and fairest WAFL player. Kicked 75 goals in 20 games this season and is ready for senior footy.

Yarran came up in chat about mid season IIRC. As good as he might be I reckon we must go a KP player. But against that is how long does that player take to become a regular at the Swans.Tough caper this recruiting.

Mature Ruckman or Midfielder? I would like to see an established MF like Kerr or Gibbs from Carlton

Yarran has firmed considerably since mid season I have seen articles mentioning his name in top 5 circles. Also had a chat to Shehean (the AFL Talent Indentification Manager) at a function last week and Yarran was noted as a bolter in the conversation.

If he lasted to pick 12, I would think the Swans would jump all over him as he is an outside midfielder with skill and pace.

He's more of a forward at this point in time. But could develop into a midfielder.

But I think he will be long gone before pick 12.

I don't want to NOK your suggestion but so far only one of the 'OKs has been OK, some might say as solid as a ROK. The other seems to spend all his time visiting the DOK
