Someone who has lived, breathed, ate and drank red and white almost since they were born, has been a fully paid up member for 24 of their 30 years and who got up as early as 4am every week this season to watch them play when I was in England (recruiting at least a dozen new Swans 'followers' from the cricket club I was at, although for most of them it was because they knew I wasn't a good person to be around when we lost).

If you think I am NARF simply because I like Homebush as a good place to watch footy and extremely easy to get to (note, I never said I preferred it over the SCG, because our No.1 ground is exactly that) then I pity you, because you obviously think there aren't many real fans around..... Can I class you as NARF because you don't like travelling away from the SCG to watch us play?

A real fan woudl prefer Sydney to play at their home ground.

Believe me if GWS fails then the game itself will be damaged in this city. My concern was always that the Swans will be hurt by GWS but the AFL will under no circumstances want or allow that to happen. I've lived in the western suburbs my entire life and the area has changed dramatically over time and the demographics are so different from the bogan stereotype of yesteryear. If they are smart and patient I'm getting more convinced by the day that GWS will get support. It will take years but I think it can work.

As Beameup and Damien have rightly said, the cross town rivalry will be a beauty andI for one will be looking forward to a showdown/Derby type atmosphere regardless of whose home ground it is.

I think the name is pretty lame and think they could have found one with a bit more of a tie to the region, but I think the colours and the guernsey look great, very distinctive!
One criticism I have is the reasoning behind the blue in the away strip. It's supposed (or so I thought) to be aligned with Canberra, they have absolutely no connection to blue whatsoever!

I hope they succeed, for the sake of Aussie Rules in Sydney. And their colours are OK, I suppose. As I said, can't stand the banal, dull name. Oh well ... maybe if it all succeeds beyond the AFL's wildest dreams, the third team created in Sydney (North Shore Numbats? Bondi Budgie Smugglers?) will be more interesting.

Annie - info is from the Herald Sun and yes they are made of sandstone but i guess Orange and Yellow might be a horrendous colour combination.

Will we still get Swans' games free to air?

Up to the AFL in the next TV rights deal which will happen next year. I've got a gut feeling that multi-channeling will occur so you can watch AFL exclusively on ONE HD without it having to be simulcast on Ch 10 but Foxtel can bid for up to 5-6 of the 9 games in an 18-team competition. However the poor tv ratings of the Swans this year (and we had a pretty good year!) probably means that it is unlikely we are going to get 100% of all the Swans games on free to air live. Maybe delayed after pay tv on a nonsencial hour or the AFL will guarantee one game featuring a NSW-based team will be shown live free to air which means the Swans (most likely depending on form) or the Giants (if they were playing a top four team).

The "blue" in the Blue Mountains comes from the eucalypt leaves ... not the granite. (Without checking, I'm pretty sure the majority of rock in the Blue Mountains is sandstone ... I've physically seen a lot of it, and I'm sure it's sandstone.)

As for vicious chatter .... the AFL are getting what they want ... a RIVALRY.
I'll personally give Sheeds a lift to the airport when they fold.

I I just hope the AFL doesn't manage to weaken the swans through the push for GWS so that the city ends up with 2 weakened teams. Not that the AFL isn't going to chuck a lot of money at GWS- but if they aren't careful they may end up having to chuck a lot of money at 2 sydney teams to support them both, and that is the last thing we want.

I am concerned about this too. I think that if it came down to funding one or the other, the AFL big business machine would choose the GWS Jaffa G Strings (good one, goswannie14) with their big behinds. Let's see what the situation is in 2015.

And I hope I'm wrong, that both teams will benefit. And I won't be watching them except when they play us.

Colours are meant to be orange for the western sunset and charcoal for the granite of the blue mtns.

It's a bit vicious the chatter on RWO, i thought the objective is to promote the greatest game of all rather than to tear other clubs down and leave the Swans standing. And this is coming from a loyal Swans supporter!
