The way I see it, you've got an undeniably talented player who has shown potential to be a complete package, at least at WAFL level, who is still young, and who, if he works hard, can still make it. Most importantly, he came to Sydney off his own bat; we wouldn't be plucking him from WA. Worth a punt with a rookie pick IMO.

Not so sure about the "undeniably talented" bit. Yes, he has some tricks but not convinced he has enough, or that they are sufficient to make an impact at senior AFL level.

As a comparison, Simon Phillips was significantly more impressive at reserves level from the moment he stepped into the club as an 18 year old. But his size was an issue when he tried to step up to senior level. Even after a couple of years at SANFL level he wasn't able to make the grade at Port when he was redrafted there.

I am with you there R'n'R. Broome did the odd eye-catching thing but not nearly enough on a consistent basis to suggest he can make any impact at senior level. If he were an 18yo you might allow for future development but given his age and the fact he's already been in the AFL system, I don't think he really showed enough.

He's a smooth, classy player, but from what I've seen I'm not sure if he has that extra something that will make him an AFL player. That said, you never know, and I do quite like him.

Biggs was injured toward the end of last season. but in the games he played he was in the best players in nearly every game. The club seem to have a pretty high opinion of his first year. He has impressed enough for the possibility of getting raised to the Senior list in my opinion. He can play HB, HF, Wing or in centre square so he is flexible. He is a good mark, kick & generally makes pretty good decisions, hence in the best players in almost every game he played. He is not the same sort of player to Lamb so cannot be compared. Lamb is a strong, clever, naturally gifted player in the footy tradition, Biggs is more of an athlete than Lamb but doesn't have the cleverness (more straight forward footballer). He is a good long kick and is pretty good in front of the big sticks, tends to kick long and is very accurate. He is a very good overhead mark for his size and weight.

But Potter's already a year over minimum draft age and has spent a number of years on the scholarship programme, including playing with the reserves team for the bulk of the last two seasons. I think he's the kind of player everyone would love to see "make it" because he's hard at it and works hard. But like big brother before him, I suspect he just lacks the finesse (especially at his size) to quite make it to the very top level.

I agree with you Liz. Potter really doesn't have the goods. He is a good player at this level but I think if he was asked to step up to AFL level even in the NAB Cup it would be too much for him. I think we will take Broome in the Rookie Draft and give him a full pre-season just to see what he can do. His delivery is super, he knows how to get the pill and he is smart around goal. He will be a ten times better player with full fitness. I don't think we will be redrafting Nip or Brett onto the Rookie list. We are now moving on and so should they. I would suggest to both that they look interstate to the SANFL. WAFL or VFL to continue their career if they still have hope of getting onto a list.

After thinking about it I believe Lamb is the man to step up and show us how good he is next year. He showed glimpses of it toward the end of the season and I think there is a lot more to come.

Potter grew better as year went on,and developed good skills. Height is against him as well, but he seems a much more malleable talent than Broome. I reckon he may show a bit more in '13

I suspect he'll have a pretty good career in a second tier league but just doesn't quite have enough "it" for senior AFL.

Broome: definitely sneaky goal sense and accurate radar. Downside, he is very small and from the western side of the continent.

Anyway, after the delistings/tradings, there are almost no ressie players that I don't think will make it (although I saw almost nothing of Brown and far too much of Everitt to nominate either of them).

So in the spirit of a lucky dip I will jump on Scott's Lamb band-wagon (based on the games I saw of his as an outside-mid, rather than as a goal sneak). And also because if he doesn't come good in 2013, he might be on the butchers-wagon this time next year.

Jed showed towards the back end of the season what he'll bring to the table. He now needs a Jetta like preseason to build a motor that will take advantage of his undoubted ability.

I like the look of Pick 23 as well. Looks to be a gun .

So it seems that we've had a big clean out of list cloggers, players who weren't going to propel us to the next flag but those we've retained all seem to have enough talent to make the grade.

The whole stategy seems to be to maybe take some short term pain of little depth to try and find another couple of premiership standard players with our six picks this year. One of those may still be Tippett.
