According to his manager on SEN yesterday, at the start of the year they were in disagreement about the length of contract, so both parties amicably agreed to postpone talks to halfway thru the season. When that point arrived, the Swans elected to move talks to seasons end which sat uncomfortable with both Mummy and his manager who smelt a rat. His manager then started to sniff out other opportunities, found one at GWS and once the Buddy news broke it was clear to them that he was on his way west.

I suspect he would have had quite a decision to make if the Buddy deal didn't eventuate given the healthy payrise he has secured from GWS.

Ok thanks, colours in the picture abit. Though I suspect the swans were quite ardent on the length of contract for good reason. And Shane can't wait around for them to change their minds, so i'm glad he was proactive.

Thanks. I'm still not clear about this. To clarify (and using simple figure for example): if Swans offer was $1mill + COLA of $100,000 - to match offer does Hawthorn have to offer $1mill or $1.1mill?

Hawthorn would have to march the $1.1 mil. The easiest way to deal with the COLA is to forget it even exists, which it probably won't for very much longer.

Mummy said he would continue living in Bondi unless the travel became too much.

He said that it was unfortunate he was leaving Sydney and sounded disappointed he was leaving Sydney.

Sydney never sat him down to tell him they were letting him go. So he and his agent had an offer from GWS. That deal was increased when Buddy joined the Swans.

Has spoken to Longmire and the other guys and there are no bad feelings.
