When an umpire is incompetent they are going to make mistakes that go the way of both teams. There was no incompetence about the umpiring during that Freo game.

It's been very unsatisfactory to read the posts of people who are targeting a particular umpire.

The umpire in question is highly experienced, and has been endorsed as an elite umpire by the AFL.

We all teach our kids about the importance of respecting the umpires decision, and moving on positively with the game. Let's do this ourselves and show some respect to a highly experienced official.

Sorry Matt, but you could not have seen the game in question to not have been outraged at the way we were treated that day and as someone else pointed out, the more outraged we got the more his ego inflated. Most times I would agree with your sentiments but not as far as he is concerned.

I agree. The ego-centric goose would love all the attention so we should just meet his decisions with deathly respectful silence. Maybe he'll start doing the job he's paid to do without histrionics.

Well lets see him prove himself to be an 'elite' umpire - he has been an ordinary umpire for a long time if you ask me.

Its all nice to say you need to respect umpires decisions, but it doesn't mean they don't deserve stick when they make absolute howlers, like he did that day against Freo.

He wasn't within spitting distance but I did get a warning from the Trust regarding my behaviour that day, thrreatening to cancel my membership (SCG, not Swans). Some particularly choice language as he walked up the race led me to being escorted to the management office.

Reckon I only got off given they sensed the outrage too.

Still, a tip for people sitting in the Members - you can't refer to people as goat loving, deep throated, female body part at screaming volume ...

Apparently he was spat on by some one when he left the ground that day.

Razor generally seems so intent on not letting the home crowd influence his decisions, he goes too far the other way.

Then when the crowd starts baying for his blood, he revels in it and steps it up a notch by caning the home side even more. He certainly enjoys the notoriety...

Napoleon complex. The guy should not be umpiring in the AFL. Unfortunately, I think the AFL actually enjoys the attention he gets because he distracts from the real issues.

Swans fans are a fairly docile bunch, but I genuinely thought some were about to jump the fence that day! He absolutely copped it on his way off the ground and rightly so.

It's been an 'unofficial' rule that our sub has almost always come from the 4 named on the bench on the Thursday/Friday night.

Gaz was sub due to leg soreness.
It made sense. He can't run out a full game yet.

Mitchell has been very good lately. Not sure about him being sub.

Rohan did a good job as Sub last week, but you can't continue to keep playing a young player as the Sub every week. They will lose fitness and confidence if you continue to only give them 20 minutes of game time a week. He needs game time to keep developing his capability.

It's a different story with older guys like Gia from the Western Bulldogs. Gia is not going to get any better, and 20 minutes of high intensity football is good for his older body.

If Adam Goodes knee can't get up to the intensity of a full game, I think he could be a handy high impact sub later in the year.

I would put Tom Mitchell as the sub this week. He has not been in good form, and the rest may be good for his body.
