I don't know the wording of the contract, but if there aren't some specific out clauses then I'd be pretty shocked.
Either way, I don't care. I had my opinion, and it appears that the club saw it differently (so did many here) so he stays and I accept that and embrace him as a lasted Swan.
My assumption is that the club also holds no ill will and he is being given a fair go.

Hard to say specifically why players were omitted.
Perhaps Newman refused to do as he was instructed on the day?
Maybe AA is being put in the 2's to allow some experimenting with his game. Trying some things that are best not played with in the seniors.

Newman out is a shock, really liked his poise, getting a lot of the ball and delivering too. Really like to know the thinking there given Foote and Cunningham survived and let's not mention KJack! I see Newman as best 22.

It has been a remarkable period of giving young players a chance and I'm sure it will pay dividends in the years to come.

In terms of debutants I can also see Cameron, COR and Maibaum getting their chances this year which by my calcs makes it NINE debutants in 2017

Team balance or not, omitting Newman makes no sense. His performances have been as good as you could ask. Aliir I can understand. He's been poor and he's not playing with any accountability. Florent will just need more time but is going to be a great player in a couple of years. I'm so happy for Melican. He's had a terrible time with injuries. He will be far more accountable in defence than Aliir.

I must say that I'm really looking forward to the day that Maibaum, Melican, Aliir, O'Riordon, Newman and hopefully AJ play together. That will be one really solid backline.

The Ins were pretty close and think it would have been 5/5 had Naismith not been injured.

Not quite so close with the outs, still cannot believe Foote is playing again but he has a good tank and could well be a decent run with player

Same here. I just want to see someone take that smirk off Greenes face. along with Shaw, Mumford, Patton, Cameron and anyone else that sticks their head up.

I'm glad Aliir has been dropped, he's been lairising about down back playing fancy dan whilst making basic errors which he needs to rub out of his game before he gets selected again, he is just waaaay to loose in my book right now but I still think he has a long term future with us. Quite possible he is ahead of himself at the moment. Good to Melican get his chance

Foote is clearly being used as a tagger, and I do think there is a run with role there for the taking so I'll trust horse with this one.

Good to also see Mills being thrown into the midfield, I think his defensive apprenticeship has run its course. Jones down back will give us some much needed grunt in defence.

They would of done the analysis on Lobb and factored that in to selection too.

There was a good buzz from the players at the open training session. I'm predicting a tight win.
Yes and with Grundy disposal like last week - four goals

With Smith being burnt off the park - five goals

With Foote having no leg speed to keep up with Kelly, Scully, etc - six goals

AA may have made mistakes, but he also did some good things.

And Jack really has lost all confidence, he doesn't believe in himself anymore.

This really reminds me of horse early days; when senior players got games and the junior no matter how good were drop.

The selection hints Horse doesn't mind 0-5?? He just wants to make sure that we can have a better chance to get 1-5 and then progress from there.

Our defence in the NEAFL game v GWS could be better than the side picked in the seniors:

Aliir, Maibaum, Talia, Laidler, Newman, O'Riordan

We should beat the Neafl Giants. Maybe those going to the game should leave before the AFL game starts and go home in a happy mood.

I would have been happy with the extra tall against GWS. Maybe Horse thinks we'd be too tall.

It's a weird situation when your experienced players (Jack, Grundy, Smith, Hanners) are underperforming and they choose to drop kids to make way for the cavalry.

Will they play Jack or Foote on Shaw? The other on Scully?
