Charlie Gardiner was on SEN this morning He sounded a lot more polished than when I first heard him, in fact he sounded like a Tom Harley clone! They bought up Eddie's coin crossing remarks again and you can tell from Charlie's demeanoured response that the club is still very angry and pointing out Cynthia Banham is still upset about it. Appears the club and Cynthia have not accepted Eddie's apology, most likely due to Eddie's past form and also probably not happy with the lack of action from the AFL on Eddie, as the club as initially pushing.

On one of the Monday night footy shows someone commented (John Ralph - AFL Tonight I think?) that some in the AFL believe the Swans are bit of whingers when it comes to Eddie McGuire and predicted Eddie won't get punished by the AFL with them seeing it as a TV broadcasting issue.

On the "Back Page" last night I thought Adam Spencer got it right when he said everyone makes mistakes on TV such as what Eddie did (believing his version of events), but added the problem with Eddie was his first attempt at apologising on the night came across as shallow and insincere. Had he apologised like he did yesterday morning on his MMM radio show, then he would've been fine.

Which was the same problem with his Goodes gaffe. His first apology was a non-apology. He finally managed something close to an unqualified apology late in the evening, but only after we'd had to put up with him on every footy news show justifying why the comment wasn't really his fault. Had he just put out a proper apology in a written statement straightaway, and then withdrawn from his broadcasting duties for a period of time (given that he attributed his blunder to being tired and overworked), it would have been much easier to forgive him.

You'd think he'd have had enough practice apologising by now to get it right first time.

Yep, his first reaction when he realises he's made a gaffe is one of self preservation rather than honest empathy towards the unintended victim, which comes way too late after the damage has been done.

Guess what the AFL have decided to take no action against Macguire. The hypocrisy of the AFL is breathtaking. He will be commentating again this Friday. In fact would not be surprised if they decided to fine for Swans for complaining.
