Yep pretty sure he wouldn’t be interested in a position with a minority sport played on one far off country that would probably pay about 2% of his current salary.
Although I must admit I was blown away with his salary I thought maybe 8-10 million per year at a stretch.

Overall, Goodell earned $63,900,050 per year in each of the past two years, which means his pay was $127.8 million for fiscal years 2019-20 and 2020-21.

I’m assuming that’s Australian dollars. I thought he was on around 30 million US a year.

He’s paid the big bucks because he’s brilliant. I happily give him $300 a year for NFL game pass. Such a brilliant product. I can get every game a week I want with some great NFL variety shows.

Maybe he’s accomplished all he can in US sports? I don’t know? Maybe something like the AFL which is essentially a start up on his scale may interest him.

Maybe he can have buy the best house in Toorak for cash and have a new challenge.

Highly improbable but still worth a phone call.

If there was genuinely a search on for a great administrator that was from outside the existing Victorian centric AFL powerbase then James Johnson would be someone to talk to .
It’s no coincidence that the visibility of Soccer in Australia has increased since he was appointed CEO of Football Australia in 2020. Grew up in Queensland partly educated at Boston University and currently lives in Sydney so removed from the existing perceived boys club.
I doubt he would consider it as he has a bit to achieve yet locally and is tipped for a future role within the upper echelons of world soccer.
Some of his achievements include.
*Secured hosting rights for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023
*Negotiated record broadcast agreements with Foxtel, ViacomCBS, Paramount and Channel 10
*Negotiated record sponsorship agreements with Commonwealth Bank Australia, Rebel Sport, Priceline and Cadbury
*Negotiated the restructure and creation of the Australian Professional Leagues (separate professional league from Football Australia)

Seems a fanciful nomination, BS. A guy like that moving to Australia for a tiny salary by US standards? I give you credit for thinking outside the box but it ain't happening. Someone with Aussie connections is more realistic.

Someone who is at the forefront of media and digitalisation but with Aussie connections, may be a great choice as the future is in that area - just look at the English Premier League. Its extraordinary media rights deals globally have turned it into the premier soccer competition globally in recent years. Its not much behind the big US sports now in this regard which is why all of these US billionaires have bought English clubs like Liverpool and ManU.

I'm not so sure. I think for some of these folks a sports team is something you buy when you already have a bunch of big houses, a jet, a
$200M "yacht" and are still at a loose end. It's a pity the AFL won't appoint a Sydney or Brisbane person. A focus away from the usual
Melbourne-centric view would be good for the code.

Harley was on the possibilities list on Footy Classified but Caroline Wilson conceded he is probably not quite there yet in terms of experience.

As much as I admire Tom this is the understatement of the decade. He's still completely on training wheels running the Swannies and was a future/gut pick for that role to be honest (a well supported stable club helps for the more untried candidate, the AFL gig is in another galaxy). Let him work here for a decade or so.

I meant to add, I reckon Carlton is in trouble. Brian Cook the perfect candidate, would have club support and is a wise, measured head not as subject to old boys playing network perhaps. He could mix it with commissioners, media etc easily. I know he's from Victoria but I can't think of anyone from other states as well credentialed who may have the fuel in the tank.

Hopefully whatever Gill does in the future doesn't end up costing the taxpayer as much his predecessor's illustrious
post footy ''career in business'' has. No reason why the AFL shouldn't think outside the box and appoint Ted Lasso.
His previous transition between sports was fairly successful.
