Goodbye Gill

I can't imagine Gill as a good negotiator, so I think the 'big deals' he got for TV rights were based on the real negotiator s before him who flipped the deal from 7 to 9 and 10. That put a rocket up the TV networks that AFL won't be pisswd around. From then on, it was easy. -
I haven't noticed anyone in the media mentioning the absurd and illogical trade ban and 'you can't have everyone' explanation, which is a bit annoying.I agreed with AFL360's assessment on Gill last night, with getting the AFL competition though the challenging pandemic will be viewed as his greatest legacy balanced against the Goodes saga where poor leadership was displayed. Robbo emphasising Gill/AFL didn't know what to do & hoped problem went away before they decided to do something, which was then far too late.
They also viewed the AFLW competition as another of Gill's legacy, particularly with all 18 teams being represented later this year.
I was hoping Robbo would've also raised the Trade Ban, which he'd vehemently critized it being unfair at the time as I recall.
Interesting to see who will end up succeeding Gill, with consensus that it will be most certainly be from within, either from club land (i.e. Brendan Gale) or AFL HQ (i.e. Trevor Auld).Leave a comment:
