Unfortunately it is a recurring and frustrating problem. Game day is no different to the weeks beforehand. While I fully support the admin volunteers, there is a problem that whomever is hosting the server needs to address. It looks like the vbulletin software is well out of date. The bottom of our pages shows version 4.2.5. Version 5 was released in 2012 according to Wikipedia! vBulletin - Wikipedia

An upgrade may solve (some) of the sites issues?

This is very likely to be a factor in the issues that the site is having - also running outdated and unsupported versions is a big security risk.
Looks like there are two upgrade options: a one-off fee (and another fee for further support) to install at the same server, or a hosted "in the cloud" option for a monthly fee. Like others here I'd be happy to contribute financially.
It seems to me that the performance of both the web server and the database is often poor, which may be due to any or all of the software version, the configuration, inadequate hardware (RAM/CPU) or poor internet connectivity. If the current hosting company is a contributing factor, perhaps the cloud option is worth considering.
