Not sure about Matthew Lloyd being from up there, but I think Brett Scott, former player and coach was from The Rock - Yerong Creek

This is the Sydney current training list, which I've reproduced below in what I hope isn't a breach of RWO guidelines b/c it's only part of the article.

Sydney - Michael Aylett, Old Scotch; Ed Barlow, Oakleigh Chargers; Troy Bartlett, Wollongong Lions; James Bennett, Belconnen; Dean Davies, North Shore, Trent Goodrem, East Coast; Andrew Hayes, Sydney; Kieren Jack, Pennant Hills; Adam Prior, Murray Bushrangers; Sam Rowe, Murray Bushrangers; Nathan Twomey, Balmain Tigers.

Apart from the names already mentioned, the only surpises there are:

    a) Michael Aylett- the internet reveals less than nothing about him, apart from the fact that he went to Scotch and now plays for Old Scotch U/19s in the Victorian amateurs. Would be a smoky of at least Vogels proportions, even for a rookie, it seems.

    b) Ed Barlow- also went to Scotch. Turning 19 in January. 193cm and 83 kg, which is very nice. Played just 4 games for Oakleigh Chargers (relative cellar-dwellers) in the TAC Cup (maybe b/c of school commitments?). Started out in an amazing blaze of glory with 26 and 25 possessions in his first 2 games (being ranked his team's 3rd best in the 1st game, and best in the second), before having a quiet next 2. Got picked for Victoria (and played very well) in the 'Rising Stars Cup' where Vic U/18s play 'the Allies', i.e. all of the other states (apart from SA/WA) combined U/18s team. (Seems like the Vics picked a bit of a 2nd-tier team as few of the draft stars played.) Would replenish our 'Ed' stocks with the departure of Ed Clarke.

I've also noticed on my travels through the TAC Cup that Adam Prior is a ROK clone on more than one level: he kicked 52 goals in the TAC Cup to be the 3rd in the comp's goalkicking list. But he also kicked 37 behinds, including bags of 3.6 and 2.5. So he could be even more productive if he can work on his accuracy. In a year where there are few standout NSW boys, he would have to be a virtual dead cert to be a nominated local rookie.

Isn't that what Richards was for?

Floors of barristers are known as 'chambers' and are usually named after legal luminaries, e.g. Garfield Barwick Chambers. A barrister friend of mind had the excellent idea of setting up Barlow Chambers.

No, I'm going to have to be pedantic on that one. They might have come from a similar origin, but Ted is different to Ed.

Does anybody know anything about Nathan Twomey? It is an unusual name and is the same surname as two champion Collingwood brother ( Mick and Bill, one a captain) of the sixties.

    Duds - move on

Unlikely, b/c he actually hails from Dubbo despite obviously coming up to Sydney in the last couple of years. Listed at 191cm and 95kg as at late June, but he was listed as 190cm and 101kg in early May, so unless someone's tape and scales are out he's still growing upwards, and getting fitter at an alarming rate! Born March 1987 so heading towards the older end of draftees. Seemingly a specialist forward (and with that bulk, he sure ain't going to play through the middle). Pretty unremarkable (if he did play every game up forward) performance of 10 games for 8 goals in Sydney AFL this year. Started playing for Swans' reserves early in '04, so the Swans have obviously been interested in his development for some time. Played at least one game for 2nds this year, too. Obviously did okay at the U/18 championships b/c got named an emergency in the Allies (combined non-Vic/SA/WA side) team.

Looks like the chances of Sydney loading up on (relative) talls at the rookie draft is quite high-- even if only one of them makes the grade by 2007, 'twill do a good deal for our depth.

He played in at least 3 of the reserves games that I saw this year. I didn't realise he was as big as his measurements state. He spent most of the time on the bench but when he did come on I don't think he played as a permanent forward.

Delisted Saint Dylan Pfitzner could be a chance. He's a NSW boy. 196cm but only 82kg.

Sorry - my mistake. I was sure the Saints had a NSW player on their list (other than Hayes), and I thought it was Pfitzner.
