    Unhappy goodbye to a champion

Most of us knew it was going to happen eventually but Paul Williams is exspected to announce his retirement tomorrow.

What a champion he has been to the great game of Australian Rules Football, started out at the pies & ended up at the red & white where he put in 110% all the time & never gave up even when we were down & out.

one word can sum up the bloke from Tassie.......CHAMPION!

Assuming you have a source and there is fact behind this, are you suggesting he is retiring immediately or announcing that this will be his last season?

The latter makes more sense, though I've never understood why players choose to announce this halfway through the season.

Maybe the timing is designed as a publicity ruse for this week's game?

If true it would make sense given we are playing Collingwood.

Final season rather than final game.

Here's the source (last few paragraphs)

I heard it on the 5am news this morning - he has done us proud and can actually retire with a premiership medal - So lets hope that the rest of the season for Willo is a winning one and that he has a blinder against the pies.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Well done Willo on a great career. I think he may have been one of our recruiting coups when we got him away from that hell hole they call Collingwood.

Here Here. I've never seen Willo drop below maximum effort. A great example to those around him.

Willo is an absolute gun, both as a bloke and a player.

Well done to him on a fantastic career and I'm sure both Sydney and Collingwood supporters will remember fondly his booming long goals on the run.

As always Willo, perfect timing. Expect Willo to be 2006's Jason Ball and to be the critical difference when it counts in the finals series.
