Well I cant comment on any players, but according to the SCG cam, our reserves can't kick straight either. Good thing they have kicked 27 goals though...

    Well its over.

    Final Result
    Sydney 30-32-212
    Hawks 7-4-46

    Sydney Goal Kickers
    Barlow 5
    Phillips 5
    Laidlaw 4
Vogels 3 (well he is not playing then, that would suggest Hall is fit)
    White 3
    Jack 2
    Crouch 2 (promising)
    Brabazon 1
    M.Davis 1
    Thornton 1

The scoreboard only brought up 27, I guess the other 3 were individual scorers.

M.Davis is alive and well. Good to see him mentioned.

    Laidlaw amongst the goals ....good.

I saw most of the second half. Crouch seemed to be rested in the final quarter but was tearing them up in the 3rd through the midfield. He looks about ready to come back into the seniors.

I think White only moved to full forward in the last quarter which is when he kicked his goals. Looked impressive.

I've seen a few one-sided games in my time, but this one just about tops them all. Didn't see the first quarter, when the Hawks kicked three of their goals and the Swans just had a 10 point lead. The second and third terms were just about one way traffic, with - I think - 11 goals in the second and 13 in the third. By the final quarter, which is when the team has traditionally really racked up the score, they looked pretty tired and I think just kicked the 3 more.

Barlow played as a permanent forward, first time I've seen him do so. He's had a hair chop and now looks almost identical to Vogels from the stands - same height, similar build, and they even run almost the same, so without the mop to distinguish one from tother it was a tad confusing at times. But Barlow looked very strong as a forward, a very convincing performance from him indeed.

Phillips had a great game too. His work rate is phenomenal, yapping around the packs all game long. He unselfishly laid a few chances off to other players, probably too unselfishly.

Jack was excellent, especially in the second quarter, White presented well, rotating between the forward and backlines. Crouch was Crouch - quick, dodgy kicking but hard at it. He looks close to ready to come back.

Laidlaw was the other stand-out, playing as a mid-sized forward. He reminded me a bit of Matthew Nicks in the way he went about it. He took some very good contested marks and his kicking looked smooth and confident.

Old RoyBoy has promised us a full match report in due course, and I'm sure he'll provide more detailed comments on the players.

I think they applied a mercy rule in the last quarter, it only ran for 24 minutes and there were plenty of goals kicked in that period as well. If the Swans had kicked more accurately in the 2nd it could have been even more embarassing. It was 6.17 at some stage during the 2nd.

The Hawks were somewhat competitive in the first quarter, harrassing and chasing but this obviously took its toll on a hot morning as they were buggered by the end of the second quarter and couldn't keep up with the Swans. There were also plenty of ballups that they didn't contest against Shaw.

Agree with a lot of what liz has said. If Dempster doesn't come up, and if they deem that Crouchy needs another run I think Laidlaw could be in line for a debut.

Thornton and Simpkin were also active through the midfield. Poor Simpkin didn't have his kicking boots on though, he kicked at least 7 behinds my count and he kept more frustrated after each attempt.

Smoky Davis has had a haircut but still bumbled about quite aimslessly. I'm not sure what the coaches see in him. Sure he's tallish and athletic but he doesn't seem to know what his role is.

Anyone know what happened to Doyle? I noticed he wasn't out there during the 1st quarter so I looked towards the bench and there he was icing his ankle! I'm sure he didn't play a single second so did he injure himself in the warmup.

Jack is making it damn near impossible for them not to elevate him if they decide to bring somebody off the rookie list.

He's quick, as tough as, and his foot skills would be in the top few at the club. Lay down misere to be on the senior list next year!!

And Liz, what happened to the 'they ALWAYS rest one of the emergencies' theory?

Perhaps his size may be an issue

Ok - agree they didn't today. But the other week certainly wasn't the first time they've done it, and I've watched reserves games with someone from the admin staff who follows the reserves closely and who told me it's their normal practice to do so.

If Phillips can get a senior game, size shouldn't be an issue for Jack.
