Can anyone clarify what happens in practice with the reserves games and where players get a game if we have a nearly full squad available. We have 45 listed players.
The rules for match day are - A maximum of 18 listed players can be in the match day squad, with 13 on the field at the one time. The rest of the squad will be sourced from either scholarship players or local Sydney AFL players. So three queries here
ONE - In theory we could have 22 in the AFL leaving (if all fit) up to 23 players needing a game so up to five will be surplus to the 18 allowed to be listed for ACT league. What happens to those five players?
TWO - on game day we are allowed to play 18 listed players but only 13 on the ground at one time. Are there 22 or 23 players on interchange because 13 plus 4 only makes 17 on the ground?
THREE - with a maximum of 13 listed players on the ground at any time, does this mean that when we have a full 18 listed players, the top up players have to play 100% of game time otherwise we breach the maximum 13 rule?
I'll be getting to Sydney a couple of times this year and really looking forward to watching the Ressies.
