Day Tripper
NEAFL Round 4
Tuggeranong Hawks v Sydney Swans Reserves
Sunday 14th April 2013 11.45am
Greenway Oval
Note: Match will be streamed live on neafl.com.au
The first of only 2 Canberra trips for the Ressies in 2013. Tuggeranong finished with the wooden spoon in 2012, only managing one victory throughout their whole campaign. With new coach Pete McGrath in charge, they've already equalled that number of wins by upsetting Eastlake in Round 2.
The Reserves will have to adjust to playing under the listed players restriction rule, after two meritorious victories over fellow reserves sides in UWS and the Suns Reserves in consecutive weeks. The scheduling of the game for the day after the seniors play probably means that all 3 emergencies should take the field at Greenway.

R4 Reserves 32.21 (213) defeated Tuggeranong 6.5 (41)
A convincing victory by the Reserves who put in a 4 quarter performance to easily defeat the struggling Hawks. Mitch Morton finally hit some form in Swans colours, putting in a 7 goal performance complemented with many goal assists. Trent Dennis-Lane and Tommy Walsh joined in the goal glut, bagging 5 goals each. Brett Meredith re-discovered some form after an injury interrupted pre-season

Reserves 15.20 (110) defeated Gold Coast Reserves 10.5 (65) @ Sydney Cricket Ground
A brilliant first half display by the Reserves set up a comfortable victory against the Suns reserves, whose lethargic start proved to be costly. Midfielders Lamb, Cunningham and Robinson set up the win with their contested ball, whose work was gleefully finished off by the forward duo of Morton and Membrey who finished with 7 goals between them.
Goals: Morton 4, Membrey 3, Cunningham 2, Brown, Sertbas, Mitchell, Robinson, Jack, Lamb
Best: Lamb, Cunningham, Robinson, Brown, White

# Name Games Goals Votes Notes 1 Tim MEMBREY 2 6 0 Kicked all 3 of his goals in the first half last week, will be seeking more consistency in his performances. 6 Tom MITCHELL 1 1 0 Only played the 2nd half last week, and won't get a full game for a few weeks. 7 Harry CUNNINGHAM 2 3 5 Shifted to the midfield and looked the goods. 10 Mitch MORTON 2 7 3 (Senior emergency) Is lack of fitness still an issue, or is it a lack of an opportunity that is keeping him out of the seniors? 11 Jed LAMB 2 2 5 Good noise being generated around his pre-season and form. 17 Tommy WALSH 1 0 0 Played as a key defender last week, yet to be seen whether this move will be made permanent. 18 Jesse WHITE 2 1 5 (Senior emergency) Playing the best footy of his career but unlikely to get a run in the seniors unless one of the ruckmen go down. 22 Dean TOWERS 2 0 0 Still adjusting to the Swans way of doing things. 23 Jordan LOCKYER 2 0 0 27 Daniel ROBINSON 2 1 3 Tough inside midfielder who has shown an eye for goal. 28 Matthew DICK 2 0 0 31 Harrison MARSH 2 0 0 Running around in the midfield and looking quite comfortable there. 33 Brandon JACK 2 2 0 Mid-week interview revealed tackling and chasing were his main priorities, not kicking goals. 36 Alex BROWN 2 2 2 Finally free from his hip complaints and showing signs that he can play, in different positions across the ground. 43 Dane RAMPE 1 0 0 (Senior emergency) Only played the 1st half last week before being withdrawn as the senior emergency on standby. 44 Jake LLOYD 2 1 2 46 Shane BIGGS 2 0 0
In:
Out: Tony Armstrong (seniors), Xavier Richards (???)
Richards is an unexpected out and will probably result in Walsh staying in the defensive half. The listed restrictions last year were a maximum of 18 in the match day squad (max 14 on the field at the one time), and with 17 named here it doesn't look like this rule has cost Xav his spot. Armstrong's promotion to the seniors could see the return of Cunningham to defence as the Swans look to cover the run and carry of Armstrong.

The Hawks lost one of their best players from their past couple of years, David Smith who left to join premiers Queanbeyan. Coming in as player-head coach is one time Swans rookie Peter McGrath who has extensive AFL Canberra experience, firstly playing with Ainslie and then coaching Eastlake. They've also signed midfielder Brent Macleod who was named the best player at last year's Australian Country Football Championships. Remaining with the club are danger players Ash Pocock who has consistently kicked goals in a struggling team and Ben Symons who was part of the inaugural GWS Academy.

Hey Ug - very nice work ! Where did you magic up all that from ?
It's all publicly available information. Except for the team lists, which I got from you.
So that wasn't Rampe I just saw in Hobart, I take it?
I'll be heading down as usual. Last time I was there the snags were sensational. I'm hoping for more of the same. Oh, and I hope the footy is good too.
