NEAFL 2016 Round 1
Brisbane Lions Reserves v Sydney Swans Reserves
Saturday 2nd April 2016
11.00am
Burpengary - Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex
The Lions and the Swans have the honour of kicking off the 2016 NEAFL season with the early game at Burpengary. The 2016 sees a further streamlining of the competition with Ainslie leaving the competition at the end of last season leaving the Eastlake Demons as the sole surviving ACT side. They will play under the name Canberra Demons in the NEAFL whilst maintaining their original identity in the local Canberra leagues
The Lions had an awful 2015 NEAFL season with injuries and a lack of form contributing to their 2nd last finish with just 2 wins for the year. Coach Shane Woewodin has plenty of fresh new faces to work with but the Lions have had a poor preseason, losing all 4 of their practice games including a 136-44 belting at the hands of their archrivals Gold Coast in their final game.
The Swans, under new management with Rhyce Shaw replacing Jared Crouch, are in good form having beaten NEAFL powerhouses Sydney Uni and WSU Giants in consecutive weeks after a terrible first practice game against the Giants.

McGlynn played 3 quarters in last week's game and should progress to playing the full 4 quarters as his comeback builds momentum. Marsh has been used in the midfield in the preseason due to a lack of midfield options and a glut of defensive options. Dawson has been used all over the ground, with the ability to play at either end of the ground as well as in the midfield.

Wilson has impressed in the preseason kicking multiple goals in the past 2 games and showing plenty of footy nous around the forward line. Veale has been given time in the midfield, Behagg as a deep lying forward, Hebron a medium defender and Reinhard a tall forward.

17 listed players including their 2nd and 3rd picks from the 2015 draft Hipwood (pick 14) and Keays (24). They have named a very tall team with plenty of height at both ends of the ground but probably lack some depth in the midfield department.
