Due to the way Mighty Mouse plays he will probably get injured again (not that I wish that on anyone) and Smear will get another go.

It's not make it break season for towers. Who is the alternative ?. We won't be chasing a medium forward next trade period, well be after key defenders.

Barry, I'm a bit puzzled about your comment. The alternative is probably Gary Rohan. And I agree with the need for key defenders.

I should have added in my earlier post that we should play Tom Mitchell in the centre as much as possible, not as much forward as he was last Saturday. He's more use in the scrimmage than the open spaces, despite the improvement in his goalkicking.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Contract is finished at the end of this year. More likely he'll look for a club that offers him a long contract and a chance of a regular game.

Dawson and/or Davis could play that 3rd medium/tall forward role quite well.

Lol. Proven finals performer vs untried rookies.
Is that the definition of optimism?

"Proven finals performer" doesn't mean a thing if he can't help us get there by performing during the regular season

Hi Liz, Matimbo, Meg and Longmire. I obviously think very differently about what McVeigh.

Since the 2014 GF Macca give us virtually nothing, except going forward against Geelong last year, maybe the GF crushed him, but Longmire must love Macca and Kizza last year as they were 5th and 3rd in the B&F. I have no idea how that happens. Getting votes for set ups from the coaches makes it like to a man crush betweem captain and coach.

We have so many senior players we dont need more to direct, or pointing????, all the time, we need performers. Kizza is playing near his level but McVeigh never appears to influence the game.

All I can do is watch games and call it as i see it. Jones has issues but we need fit, fast players like him not a chess coach on field. Give us on field performance that helps the time or get another player that will add to the team.

Macca has to play forward nowhere else.

The game is different, speed and individual fighters are required. Default position is attacking and then defending frentically only Freo and us are in the defence default position and we have much more talent then them.

    For example:

Reg to JJK fair and even but JJK is quicker.
Ted to Darling, unless they bomb it in, Ted will get towed around by Darling and never threat Darling and Darling defends very well in the I50.

Option: Ramps to Darling. Fair, Ramps has the speed to run with him and Laidler can came over and help when required.

Not attacking posters but history is yesterday not today or tomorrow. ????

    Fixed it for you.

I am all for giving Towers the benefit of the doubt until Rohan (who still has to prove himself too) is healthy but Dean needs to be either scoring or tackling, preferably both. This is not something he has done yet.

That's quite an interesting position on McVeigh. I know it's often frowned upon to question club legends, but I think we should be open to discussing such things in this type of forum.

I'm split on McVeigh - he's smart, but he's slow. For a few years now he has been the half back defensive general and provided us with above average disposal out of defence. Last week he looked very rusty and his disposal was not up to scratch, which is to be expected first game back from injury. Personally I think he'll remain in his current role - the way the game is played these days requires intense forward pressure and McVeigh doesn't have the pace for that role.

And what particular proven performance of Towers are you alluding to? Could it be his 12 possession, nil goals masterpiece against NM in the semifinal? Yes, that was a game winner, except we lost. Perhaps he's just an ANZ specialist. If we make the finals this year we can bring him in for a cameo there.

Statistically Macca was very good last year, not that stats are the be all an end all. And Champion Data keep their 'pointing' stats a secret except for premium subscribers. His dreamtime average score was second best of his career, just a tad behind 2013, so not surprised his season was rated well. Although it wasn't specified as to the type of knee surgery he had, I'm assuming it was a meniscus cleanup. You would have to think that he carried some knee pain throughout the season as you can play with this type of injury. Now that he's had the surgery, I think he should have a very good year. Given how well players like Sam Mitchell are doing, I think we might find a few more quality seasons left in McVeigh.

If Macca played forward and helps a bit in mids I would pick him every week. He needs just about a KPD to quiet him down. He will kill the flankers/pockets and get 2 goals and several assists most games.
