There is no doubing that the Saints have done a fantastic job and maybe the selection of the name "Saints" helped identify it as an AFC, but maybe I could forward two points. Firstly and of minor consequence is that teams with their own unique identity of name or colour seem more attractive than a "off-the-shelf" one. I know alliances are a fact of life now but it is a liitle saddening when clubs change from their historical names/colours to AFL ones. Overseas there are many fantastic innovations in colours and names making them more attractive.
Secondly and more importantly I'd suggest that because Maroubra has done so well that they aim high and wide and take on the mantle of "South Sydney". IMO that would have a number of benefits and possible link ups all cumulating in making life easier for your club. For example, the fact that "South Sydney" has been reborn is worth a lot of exposure in the football world, local government and maybe the community.

Agreed. We left the Saints name back in 99, St George are forever known as the Saints, Mac Uni had the colours the year you blokes started, yes? Probably need to look at an alternate. I'd think a club with 3 teams (Maroubra) would change before Mac Uni (7 teams?) but, all power to ya.Leave a comment:

I always wondered why the league allowed them into the comp as "Saints" anyhow. Thought there was a team slightly south of Maroubra who had a lien on the name. Good luck in getting a club established for a while to tell them to change their strip.
I would be whinging to the mob that came up with the name in the first placeLast edited by ShortHalfHead; 13 December 2011, 12:29 PM.Leave a comment:

Surely the Saints get preference at the Red, White and Black Colours seeing we're called the Saints.
Warriors/Kookaburras can change.
Saints wearing Red and Green wouldn't make much senseLeave a comment:

They also have access to a pretty good untapped geographical part of Sydney - lots of people between Kensington, Kogarah and Croydon.
Understand their desire to build their own history but I could see them maybe trying to untap the old South Sydney club legacy, maybe change their colours to red and green. Will probably be required anyway as they will be clashing with Mac Uni soon colour wise....Leave a comment:

Saints are a well run club they will be ok have lots of talent in their juniors! Can easily see the Saints having a UTS like rise and playing in Div 1 with 3-4 senior sides within 5 years. They are able to tap a huge catchment area and are piggy backing one of the most progressive junior clubs in Sydney.
I don't particularly like the manufacturing of this new Blacktown side, think the best and most obvious way to bring on new clubs is from a strong junior one. Don't think it would take much for an Upper North Shore senior side (St Ives or Hornsby) to get up and running eitherLeave a comment:

Long time reader, first time poster.
Saints AFC is looking at 3 teams this year, with the possibility of a women's team. Looking forward to season 2012! having a pathway to the under 18's for our junior club is great for this area instead of going to UNSW/ES
Go the saints!

Interesting how new clubs get selected into Divisions.
Notice that Blacktown (new club-0.00 years old) is in div 3
Gosford - 40 years old in Div 4Leave a comment:

Western Jets were born out of Blacktown & Hawkesbury 16s, playing under Hawkesbury ARFC Inc, so not seperate clubs, no. We played games at Quakers and Bensons, and our 18s backed up for Seniors countless times. Our 18s went from Western Jets, to Nor-West Jets, then into Greater Western Power & then Penriff/Nor-West RamJets.Leave a comment:

You were 2 seperate clubs at the time from memory wernt you? Hawkesbury at Bensons and Jets at Wrights one senior the other under 18's?I played all my junior footy at Seven Hills/Blacktown, so it's good to see the revival of a Blacktown team, but the name is less than imaginative. Better than Starz as Colesy mentioned though.
And we're not entering an 18s team for the first time as it states, we had one from 1997-2004! Research, head office!
Anyway I wonder where DC and his new charges will be based? If imaging a few people may have something to say if its out of the AFLs showpiece at Rooty Hill.Leave a comment:

Better than Starz as Colesy mentioned though."Included amongst the nominations are two new clubs who have nominated a single team. These clubs are Gosford Wildcats who have transferred across from the Black Diamond AFL, whilst the Blacktown Magic will field a team for the first team. The Magic have been established by the AFL as a means of engaging the Blacktown Region and provide a pathway from community-run programs to senior football.
There is similar growth in the Under 18 age group, with a record twenty-two nominations being received for the two divisions. Nor West and Saints afc will be fielding Under 18?s teams for the first time."
Surely the Magic will rock the pinstripes...?

Interesting. First I have heard of a new club starting. I would imagine it would be scrutinised heavily and they would be have to be sustainable with a growth plan/Under 18's vision etc for the future. Not just a bunch of mates wanting to have a run. Any rumours where they would be playing out of? Whalan Reserve maybe?Leave a comment:
