Team List Team Selection: R22 v Port Adelaide @ SCG

Heard report Wicks got hurt at end of the VFL match and walked off slowly. Hopefully just winded. Not listed on club's latest injury report, but i was confused on AFL360 last night still listing him on our injury list with hamstring???? Assuming Wicks is ok, for mine:

Out: Edwards (inj), Rowbottom (inj), Rosas, Kyle
    IN: Melican, Sheldrick, Dattoli, Wicks.

Cunningham for Kyle if for some reason Wicks doesn’t come up. Cleary was our best in the VFL, but he hasn't played as midfielder in the AFL and Sheldrick is a more like replacement for Rowey .

Tempted to drop McLean for Hamling, but hesitant in making too many changes this week. He is on notice.

Green to get a run if we decide to rest Grundy before the finals.

We don't need to rest anyone. We have a bye with the Wildcard round.

The bottom four for us are
      Rosas, Kyle, Bice and Mclean
2 in backline and 2 in forward line.
i think Coottee has been serviceable. And his kicking is good.
as a result the moment we drop the contest in the middle we get scored heavily.

and with Edwards gone from the backline we are very vulnerable in the backline. maybe with him being there we were able to deal with Bice and Kyle.

mclean - we don’t have an option but to keep him playing. Maybe give him more time in the ruck to rest Grundy and also to give him something more to do.

if Rowbottom, Mcinerney are both available, I am sure Rosas and Sheldrick will be replaced
The question is how do we improve the backline.

Wicks should replace Kyle when he is available. I think the MC won’t drop Bice.
      so Melican to replace Edwards.

For this week with Mcinerney not available - we give Dattoli a debut for the next 2 games.

Cox has said McInerney is in line for the Bombers game at this stage.

Mclean is bottom 4 because he isnt a Ruck

He is mid 20s, let Green play the role as relief ruck, let Mclean be a permanent fwd

We should breeze through these next 3 games. If we don't, I can't see us going very far in the finals.

Despite Edwards playing well, I'm not worried about our KPBs, Melican or Hamling will fill in fine for Edwards, without much downside. Unfortunately Snell is not up to playing this week.

I believe we have a bye this round in the VFL, so we should look for other possible substitutions.

Port have been playing 2 ruck, but one is quite young. So this would be a good week to bring In Green, and play 2 rucks as well. I would just drop McLean and just play 2 KPFs. McLean has offered little the past few weeks. I would take a hard look at playing 2 KPFs in the finals and do some experimentation around that idea in these last 3 games.

We really need to work on our leaky defence. It's hard to say what we need to do. It may be a midfield problem more than a defender problem, but we have been leaving oppo players free in our defensive zone all season. We just have not worked out how to organize our defense in transition. We are getting scored on to easily on turnovers.

We need 3 tall fwds in finals, otherwise stop Curnow stop the Swans. I like Logan but im not banking in him kicking a bag to get us over the line too often.

Hamling isnt even defending in the 2s, keep him away from the Top side, these guys probably play him fwd.

Our Transition defence is run with defence, we need to target the ball carrier.

I also see Sheldrick made the AFL under 22s side, I assume he would come off the bench

sheldrick for rowie, wicks for bice (too unpredictable now with his kicking) lost what he had last year. Hanily or Dattoli for Rocas (now i know why sns let him go) Melican or Snell (maybe he is still carrying some sort of injury).

Appears you are not a fan of Lloyd. When we needed him in the last quarter against the aints he stood up. I'm adamant that we should play Dattolli for the next 3 weeks to see what he's got to give. I also think people under rate Logan. He was very good last week and when you haven't played for a year it can take a while for things to click. He kicked goals from within inside 20 metres from goal. I don't think we need 3 tall forwards.

Id prefer to see Datolli over Lloyd and we need to do something with whatever they are doing with Mclean. Plays his best footy fwd, averages 6 touches and no goals when asked to Ruck.

Sheldrick, Datolli, Green are our future, all 1st round picks bugger all chances for the last 2

I rate Logan and still has upside, play 3 talls and let guys like him roam the oval, so we arent going Long down the line to Rosas and Lloyd like we did last week.

If we had Hayward I would have easily dropped McLean and play with him a marking forward. We don’t have anyone in his mould except maybe Heeney. Can Dattoli fill that role would be the question.
Lloyd is better than most of the replacements at present. If Dattoli impresses maybe once Mcinerney comes back but not at present.

I am not as sure as Ludwig with regards to our KPFs but let’s see how we go.
I think the zone defence we work on and let the opposition use the width of the ground means we give way too many entries. i think we need to seriously strangle the opposition come September. Our offense can find its way. I also feel that there are way too many of our midfielders committing to the offense and that balance of offense and defense is always a bit tilted in favour of the offense with our team. We need Josh Kennedy kind of player in the middle - the role Jai Newcombe is playing at Hawks.

I would rest Lloydy this week and bring in Dattoli. Of course, Rosas needs to be dropped but it is important to give Dattoli a few games now. I agree McLean shouldn’t ruck- he isn’t a ruckman just because he’s tall- but is ok in a forward pocket alongside Charlie, with Logan at CHF. For goodness sake bring Green in if he’s fit, as Blind Freddy can see that we need a second ruck going into the finals. The selectors are delusional if they think McLean can do the job, or Logan for that matter. We don’t have anyone else, it’s that simple!

Melican/Hamling in for young Edwards and if Wicks is fit, move Mills to midfield to help with clearances as we still get done there too often.

McLean rucks only around 15%of the time. So he's playing mostly forward and his lack of contribution of the past several weeks proves that we don't really need a 3rd tall forward, not that I am against the idea. It's more a matter of personnel and who is contributing.

We need to find a point of difference if we want to make an impact in finals. We have lost to all 5 of our top competition in the the finals, so something has to change. These next 3 games represent a good chance to experiment with some alternatives. It gives us a chance to see what might work better, so we can elevate or game enough to beat these teams we haven't been able to beat this season.

Wicks can come in for Rowbottom. It's a personnel rather than a positional replacement.

Drop the poor contributors, Rosas and McLean, and bring in Datoli and Green to replace them.

Maybe Sheldrick come in for Kyle, effectively replacing Rowbotttom, postionally speaking.

I wish we would stop talking about Lloyd, who has become a rotation winger, who still makes a big contribution to our side. Can play, and has played off both wings. He has the versatility to play all outside positions, which makes him a valuable rotation player in our current side.

We will review the game on Monday and see how our changes went. JMac looks probable the next week.

Hopefully Snell recovers enough to get a shot to play AFL this year. I think he is a better player than Edwards, except Edwards has size and power in his favour. I think both will be in our team next year, fitness permitting.

I would like to keep Kyle in the side too, but it might be hard to do if we get lucky by not getting more injuries.

Sorrry for the typos, but my vision is not up to editing, so my post are just what my touch typing permits.
