There is zero point playing out the rest of the season. I hope they withdraw from the finals and give another team a chance. Personally I won't give a stuff about anything to do with the Swans. I hope the charges were serious and not just bending to the pressure of the media.Comment

I could not disagree more crackedactor. Yes our chances to win the flag are all but terminally impacted by the stupidity of a few. But those players that have not done anything wrong deserve their chance to play out the season, whatever may come.
Why should they be punished as well? Collective punishment doesn't work, and I think those guys deserve our support to finish the season off, come what may.
And while I'm not for one second trying to trivialise the seriousness of the issue by talking about on field impacts - if there might ever be an external event that helps the remainder of the playing group shake the clear mental fragility we have currently as a club, this is it. Going out there and playing well (even if we get beat as is likely) despite the clear siege mentality that will be around the club (completely deserved by the way in that regard) could be very good over the longer term for the playing group.

My favourite player- what a shame! Where to now?
These young men are paying the price for being immature, selfish and breaking club rules- I sincerely hope that they take this very seriously and resolve to make it up to their teammates in the future.
Let’s hope and pray that the police investigation doesn’t find the SA allegations substantiated as that would be a nightmare. However, the mere fact that an allegation was made is awful and these players need to have a long hard look at themselves- just what were they thinking?
We can all make mistakes but give me a break- this is totally irresponsible behaviour
and unworthy of the great culture the Club has worked so hard to achieve over many years.Comment

It definitely had that for a long time, but I'm not so sure it has had for the past little while. I'm sorry mate but what a rather silly reaction to this whole situation. Withdraw to give someone else a chance? WTF? We already have the stupid wildcard round for that!
So you want to fracture the club forever by punishing the entire playing group by denying them the right to represent their club in the finals? OK then (*shakes head*).
Anyway, back to reality. The clubs decision is what a genuinely responsible club does, so I'm proud of them for that.
Having said that, I suppose a massive over reaction is better than an inappropriate response that falls short of public expectation.
It seems all five players are paying for the actions of one. Sure sanction all of them for 'bringing the game into disrepute' if indeed staying out late and drinking fits that description.....maybe two games for that but the rest of the season seems to be one of those 'seen to be doing the right thing' decisions that the club may come to regret. Possibly bye bye Chad, maybe others.
For the player that actually did the inappropriate touching, bye bye definitely......sanction him permanently (for another club to pick him up under the guise of 'people deserve redemption' when things blow over, thereby benefitting from our loss but hey, at least our reputation will be intact even though our club may be in tatters).
All in all, an extremely disappointing and regretful period in the Swans history that the five players involved will regret forever and where they should rightly have their intelligence and integrity deeply questioned.....and that has long time fans like me truly shaking and scratching their heads in utter disbelief.

I can’t get poor Rampe out of my head. This is a bloke who deserves to be revered as much as a Jude Bolton or Josh Kennedy, and will be. He carried the club through its down years a little while back and the COVID period. He stood on the stage and delivered some eloquent words after a couple of harsh grand final defeats. He had one last shot at things, and if it was to be his final year, deserved a proper send off regardless. Can you imagine doing a press conference to announce and acknowledge that now, or being chaired off in his final game given what that’ll probably look like?
It’s now all gone. Just brutal.
(Also have some empathy for poor Corey Warner. Can you imagine what that poor bastard is going through?)Comment

As I suggested in a post last night, the Swans are finished. Not just this year, but for at least a the next 10 years. The Swans are the new Essendon.
The 5 suspended players will have to leave the club to allow the club to rebuild. The club will no longer be a destination club, but rather a club that players will want to leave. Memberships will be dropping year after year.
Dean Cox might as well resign as well. He is all bust finished. Life as a coach will not be easy for him.
My interest in the Swans will never be the same. I will follow the Swans like rubberneckers who can't look away from a car crash.

Right decision by the club to save the club.
Culture takes a long time to build and can be gone in a matter of minutes. So hopefully a strong decision and some changes behind the scene helps us as a club to move forward.
if they would have played it would have been a distraction to everyone. Atleast we now know they are not there and we can focus on the finals with what we have and plan accordingly.
The club should speak to the remaining players and hopefully they can perform under these circumstances. I am not giving us any chance but the efforts of the remaining group would be important for the club and the supporters and the players themselves.
I questioned last year as to why Mills was still the non playing captain and why Heeney was not made one or atleast co captain earlier. I am not suggesting but I am sure the club already knows more than what we know.
The PR team of the players and the legal representatives will work big time to get the players off and improve their standing. And I am sure the players will get the support they need from the club. But we cannot let the culture sword be hanging over our clubs head going forward and this was a good start to knock it on its head. And hopefully we can turn it around quickly.Comment

It will be interesting to see which way this goes with the 5 (dumbarse, selfish) players...
a) Take this on the chin, own it, and go about regaining the clubs trust.
b) Pushed out by the club who may see the fractures as irreparable.
c) Request a trade for a fresh start elsewhere.
Obviously the outcome of the police investigation may mean expulsion for some or one.

Sorry guys I have just had to vent...
I feel for the victim in this, all our unaffected players (both female and male), the staff who work their tails off. Lastly I feel for the fans - all of us who have a vested interest in the club.
Part of me thinks.. "Let he who doesn't sin cast the first stone". We all make mistakes in life, the players are human too. Unfortunately some mistakes are bigger and more consequential than others. Irrespective, mistakes were made (the gravity will be determined through a legal process) and consequences will be felt. I hope all the parties are receiving appropriate mental health support - there are no winners in this.
This is just a cluster****.
It seems as if the image that the club has worked on for the past 30 years has sort of been eroded.
Finally As an FYI have paid for a "golden Gf ticket" to go from WA to watch the GF. I guess I will still go but the anticipation and the enjoyment factor (even if we didn't make the GF) is not there anymore. Gutted.Comment

I tend to differ. I think that the severe sanctions handed out, were an important step towards recovering from this as quickly as possible. I basically see it as a message, that the organisation is serious about the culture and values that are often talked about; rather than an empty PR exercise or corporate box ticking.
I'm also not sure about the 5 having to leave? On one hand, if there's proven criminal behaviour against one or two players, then I would expect their contracts to be terminated. And if they happened to be elite talent, then that would obviously be detrimental to our playing list. However, there is still plenty of talent on the list: certainly enough to be competitive. For the others in the 5 (or all), if the misbehaviour is largely in the range of being drunken dickheads, then I suspect that would be fairly quickly forgiven in the new season and promptly forgotten after a few wins.
And of course, if the rest of the playing group is currently extremely pissed off with the 5, then the best revenge would be to win a final or two. Obviously the 2026 premiership is highly unlikely, but if the team were galvanised into a couple of credible performances, then many people would feel that the club was already recovering.
And on a personal note, when I first started posting on RWO, I was getting a bit disillusioned, because I'd make what I thought were sensible, interesting or amusing comments, but nobody engaged with what I was saying. Then you were the first person to make a few replies, which encouraged me to keep posting. Over the next ten years I've quite enjoyed my involvement here. So thanks for that, and I do hope that you keep actively posting and that your love of the Swans quickly returns.Comment
