Well, at least we don’t have to listen to the commentators rabbiting on about Carlton for the rest of the finals. Their ravings are absolutely vomit-inducing.Comment

In the first clash between a top 6 side and a wildcard side, the team that was resting up for a week, overran the wildcard team in the final quarter. Hopefully that's the first small bit of evidence, that the wildcard finals are totally irrelevant when it comes to who's going to win the premiership. I'm sure that the AFL will look at the Carlton and Collingwood crowd figures and continue with the concept, but if in, say five years from now, will they be still able to justify it, if the furthest a wildcard team has progressed is a losing semifinal?
I'm also wondering if wildcard round statistically counts as finals? If it does, it seems a little unfair to past players. Throughout most of the VFL era, the finalists were the top 4 sides of a 12 team competition. So I don't really think that finishing 9th or 10th in an 18 team competition should be regarded as an equivalent achievement.Comment

Yes, weren't they nauseating! Brayshaw excitedly exclaimed at one point that "if the Blues go on to win the GF, it would be one of the greatest stories in AFL history!"
No, it would be one of the greatest embarrassments in AFL history.....that a team that end the season in tenth spot can win the big one. It was bad enough in 2016 when the seventh team was given a free ride to the flag.Comment

Do we have any preference on who we prefer to win SF tonight Freo v Geelong, to play us in the PF next week?
I have no preference who we play, but just would ike to see Geelong bundled out as i dislike them more over Freo.

Yes, I quite like Fremantle and dislike Geelong, so I'd prefer them to win tonight. And there's the slightly odd reason, that if we lose next week, then at least I'd have someone to go for in the grand final. Whereas, if it turned out a Geelong v Hawthorn grand final, I might not bother watching it.
Though the idea of a grand final redemption tour, where we beat all the teams that have beaten us in recent grand finals, has some sort of appeal. That is, we beat Brisbane last week, then Geelong next week and Hawthorn the week after that.Comment
