I would rather have got a player involved, and who knows, we might be eyeing off someone with the picks we’ve now accumulated. There’s a bit of me thinking the deal got done early as we have something in mind.
But, what the deal does do is guarantee we have the cap space to retain or match a bid on Chad and Tom McCartin next year, and essentially restock the draft hand that came from recruiting Charlie.
As for Blakey, hope you turn into Jacob Kostanty. @@@@ for brains.

Tom Mitchell said about right on trade radio
he also said Swans squeezed and I’m kind of in alignment with that if true
and if trades are happening the next two days that could be a great deal and replenished vs what given up for our Coleman Medalist brought in last trade period
will Serong shift off the wing and at 193cm be a strong HBF?
is Snell and or Andrew more ready than we think to finally slot into our backline
there many pieces that have no clarity just yet re how we navigate 2027 and 2028 window
i truly believe like we did with ROK and Papley it would have been a no deal unless we have serious upside replacement optionsLast edited by Auntie.Gerald; Today, 09:52 AM."be tough, only when it gets tough"

Well, I guess your easily pleased, I just can't see how this represents value, Dekoning seems the only player with value left at this stage we probably give up pick 6 for himTom Mitchell said about right on trade radio

Nick Murray (ex Giants Sydney player)
contracted end of 2027
if we can give more than North and equally Nick is keen to move to Sydney then if is in the mix it could be interesting given Melican so so, Hamling a make shift fix and Rampe maybe not a 2027 player
as well as Blakey moving on"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Don’t get it unless there’s something else coming. Surely we are in a strong position to say “ this, or nothing”. But in fairness, let’s wait until tomorrow before we make a final judgement. If nothing further transpires, we should write a letter to the Club saying “ Please explain!”Comment

If this isnt part of something else we should be looking for a new List Manager tooDon’t get it unless there’s something else coming. Surely we are in a strong position to say “ this, or nothing”. 3*x AA, 26yr old
I dont even need to look at the AA squad but I would do that deal for any one of them at the same ageComment

So the Lizard’s gone and we have pick 6. Question is : do we stuff this up in the draft, or trade it now for a player? We will know soon enough. As for the future picks we receive, hard to place a value on them as most draft picks take a few years to develop, if at all, though of course we could get lucky.
I’m sad to see him gone but part of me says that if a player is so determined to leave, we have to let him go and try to get the best deal we can. In this instance I’m not sure if we have but as I said above let’s wait until tomorrow night. But we should ask questions if nothing happens!Comment

On reflection, maybe there’s more to the Blakey saga that the club knows, and hence they are/were not over keen in keeping him. He certainly complained about his treatment, when none of the other 4 did. So it’s possible that the $$’s turned his head and he used the sanction as an excuse! It’s a good conspiracy theory in any case and I get the feeling the club was not happy with him and thought his behaviour was disruptive. Totally different then to the Paps and ROK situation if this was the case.
Nevertheless , we should have screwed Norf harder!!Comment
