if we still have 6 at end, do we go for E Drever(rebels) are big body mid, lowest rating so far is 7. rated at 2 by fox footy 4 by CT and a 6 by espn expert or maybe M harris a key defender at 6ft 5 with rankings of 8 9 and 10

It’s a good conspiracy theory in any case and I get the feeling the club was not happy with him and thought his behaviour was disruptive. Totally different then to the Paps and ROK situation if this was the case.

Nevertheless , we should have screwed Norf harder!!
I get the general impression the club is not unhappy to see the back of the Lizard, even if he is a good - albeit inconsistent - player. Probably far more to this saga than we’ll ever know, and Blakey has behaved like an entitled prat throughout, unlike the other 4 players suspended.

Correct. There’s a significant chunk of the playing group peeved at him. They felt he showed little contrition and when the players that were left were throwing everything into sustaining our season, Nick was already moaning about his treatment and telling everyone who’d listen that he wanted out.

I remember reading somewhere where Paps commented on the proposed Blakey trade - where Paps had made a dig at Blakey’s proposed trade to North. Seems this all has brought it to a head. Do you let a wound fester? The other 4 boys have accepted their punishment. Maybe it is a play to keep the Chad and Tommy Mc for next year. More in the kitty to keep them.

Bring Carmichael back from the Dogs and essentially we would have replaced that need.

Will be interesting if we have an option for the draft now and what our plans are there.

Don’t forget everyone that Chris Keane did really well last year with the talent that was brought in.
It’s a fair point re a play like Chad

we are entering a serious well of $ end of 2027 with Tassie and managers licking their lips

Chad only signed a small extension to end of 2027 and will be a player many clubs targeting

to be able to keep Chad and McCartin will require $ asap which provides the opportunity to kick start those negotiations now on

ie being a price maker NOW not taker in 2027 will be critical for all clubs and the pressure is on

i have just read rookie me draft central write ups on both Drever ans Harris, both read impressively. do we need a strong bodies mid or strong defender. If both available at our first pick wil;l be an interesting selectio.

Totally agree, but I’m always sad when a player chooses to leave us for another club. I can’t see Norf playing finals in the near future so it must have been the $$’s and his manager. We’ll get over it- the club always comes first!

I'm in the camp of waiting till the end of the trade and draft periods before forming a opinion from the fallout. I was hoping we'd hang on to Blakey from a 2027 premiership tilt perspective, but that looked increasingly unlikely as the days progressed. Fallout between club & player appears bigger than i'd realised.

Like everyone, I was surprised that it got done today. This does suggest we have targeted players in mind, with perhaps likes of SDK, Whitfiled & Nick Murray (which would be nice to pee off Norf). Tom Morris reporting Cox has been speaking with Zac Williams as a potential free pick up under the indigenious FA. Depth player.

The draft hand for Blakey does gives us the flexibility to perhaps split pick 6 if we have players or KPD draft prospects in mind. Pick 6 is a big deal, as Carlton didn't receive a top 10 pick for Curnow.

I wonder if anyone else on the list is looking at the Contract Blakey just tore up and the new one he signed
Settle down. This has set you off again hasn't it? The off season here on RWO is going to be challenging indeed. Sigh.

Bottom line with Blakey is he has revealed himself as a spoilt wanker who the club has decided is not a positive force....I say good riddance to him.

Sure he's a good player but our performance since the Pullman 5 have been out proves we can live without him. Tosser......bye bye sooky boy.

I feel the need to contribute in some way, so I will just make the astute observation of- I don't really know what to think.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
