He gets bonus credits for me for leading us through the down years between 2018 and 2021. Throw in COVID, and it was a tough time to be captain, but he carried himself exceptionally.

My fave memory was a game against GWS in 2020, deep into COVID. He'd already broken his hand earlier in the season but was playing on. Matched up on Jeremy Cameron at his peak, he gave him an absolute bath - 20-something possessions, including a one-handed mark with the broken hand. Cameron barely touched it.

There's all the goofy things Dane did (ie: post climbing) but he was a serious footballer, who could play on anyone from Nick Reiwoldt to Eddie Betts. Just a jet, and I'm genuinely sad the guy didn't get the flag he deserved.

        Go well, great man.
Yes, perhaps the footage that impressed me most in that highlights package, was him running down Eddie Betts. Not sure if that would have happened too often.

Let's hope that the club can find a coaching or some other off field role for him, and that he can experience some belated Swans grand final glory that way.

A very sad day with Rampe retiring. Has been an outstanding footballer, great bloke and a very fine leader of our club. Almost 300 games at AFL level after being overlooked and not giving up on his dream. At his best, one of the finest defenders of his generation - in particular his ability to play on, and beat, and often give an absolute bath to the power forwards of his era.

An absolute champ, and be interesting to see whether he stays involved in footy or not.

Bravo Dane on a magnificent career!
