If you cant get a decent trade for Okeefe then forget worrying about what you would now or would have in the past gotten for Kennelly.

As someone mentioned the in an earlier post, he's retired from AFL, forget it and move on. The situation is no different than Ben Graham retiring to play American Football. He was still able to play AFL but left to pursue another career in another field. The only problem with the entire matter was his timing.

He should have either retired when lists werent finalised or had the fortitude to play out the season.

Let's just pretend for a moment that he's not from Ireland but somewhere closer to north bondi. Would the swans have got that many more playing years out of his shoulder, groin and knees and anything else we don't know about? I don't think so. Perhaps his value to the swans could be in recruiting more top class geldings.

Going back to the the uncompensated matter that has been creating a wedge between Swan supporters, I thought of the following analogy:

Drafting Irish players on your list is like a horse racing syndicate running geldings. They can make you alot of money whilst racing but once their career is over, their value equates to a can of pet food.

There is the problem, does a Club get greedy and ""milk"" the gelding for all his worth and then be left with nothing, or should they trade the player whilst at his peak for a younger player who has demonstrated that he might be a 200 gamer? This is based on the assumption the player will not play on to retirement at 30 yrs plus.

We wouldn't have this result if we traded Kennelly at the end of 2007. The Swans knew he would not play to retirement age.

I feel sorry for Murphy now because he has become tainted in all this after what his two countrymen have done.

Kennelly was untradeable at the end of 2007 for precisely that reason, though. No other club is going to give up something of value if they know what they are getting is about to give the game up.

I don't see how Murphy is "tainted" at all.

There was never any evidence that there was a contract except for hearsay.

Except that we won it in 2005 and it is now 2009. Well and truly flatlined by now.

Poor player management to be flatlining in 09 i that case.

I don't think that there is any greater "levelling off"in 09 than what there was in 08 or 07.
