I think Shane Biggs has just earned a spot on the list, he was very good in the first half and just good in the second. He didn't have first game jitters, he just did the job, which shows a lot. If he can be as composed as this all the time under the huge pressure of the Hawks then he will be a great finals player because that is what finals is all about, pressure. We really need to watch the buddy/Roughie from the taps in front of goal. They were identical and obviously a set play. ( i guess we won't need to worry about buddy next week).

We were directly behind Buddy for his one, it was actually pretty wonderful to watch. Definitely a set play- he started a fair bit off the contest then a couple of Hawthorn players curled past between Buddy and the ruck contest, taking their Swans defenders with them and leaving an open run (and there was space the other side of the stoppage, so I'm guessing something happened there, too). Credit to Dane, he had the nous to actually recognise it and try to block Buddy's run at the ball up but wasn't able to stop him.

I have to admit, watching that play I was left thinking "he's probably worth the money for GWS".

Yep. We are big Tweety fans in our family and we thought he had a very ordinary game. Plenty of possessions last night, but a lot of them were clangers. Not his night.

We were just discussing this in a round robin discussion. He has become somewhat up and down, and this was a down. Hope he gets his mojo together sometime soon.

I love Birdy and not suggesting for a minute he be dropped, but I thought it was the worst game I've seen from him for ages. He fumbled it most of the night and when he managed to grab it he handballed or kicked it straight to a Hawk.

Bird did have the fumbles a few times but overall i thought his game was pretty good.

BJ was all over the place in the first qtr, but then seemed to go missing for the rest of the night.
Rohan is getting better each game. How excited was he to kick a goal??

Mitchell was given far too much space i the 2nd half nearly always by himself.

I thought the last qytr came down to our inexperienced guys starting to falter in the heat of the battle, and their experienced guys stepping up a notch.

Hanners Smith and Tippett back will be a bonus. As will Jetta if he can get on the park.

I agree mate Everitt was really good I had him down for 4 score assist --- but for Hawks. He cannot handle the defensive pressure again missed 3 tackles that led directly to hawk goals
- he is a marsh-mellow.

I agree with Jetta sub if he gets through the reserves today - could have an impact if fit enough. I like Morton as well but with so many to come back in who do you leave out? Who would be in your starting fwd line? I haven't really thought about it yet.

White was really good but in the second half we kicked to the advantage of the Hawks backs every time we kicked long. Jesse, Pykie & Mummy brought the ball down on many occasions only to see it taken out by Hawks. They set two to three behind the pack one to two in front including Hodge and then have the loose players out the back and we didn't pick them up at all in the second half. Next week we have to man up out the back. Even Pykie was having trouble with the big bombs. They put Luke hodge in the gap to shut down Jesse's leads, what we need to do is make Hodge accountable and man him up then use that player to make him pick them up. That will leave space again for the lead, either Tip, Jesse, Bolts or another forward.

to tell the truth I was quite shocked by our game tonight, I thought on recent form we would get flogged. For those who think Jesse is going the Freo think again. really glad we didn't win this game , have thought for a long time that playing these guys next week is our best ticket str8t thru to the prelim ...even down on troops if they play audit football they can still take this flag...waiting to see us do the hawks by three goals next week...gonna be awesome..

I don't know why you are knocking Everitt he played pretty well in fact. I thought the main problem tonight was when Mal got the bloody basll and just bombed it again and again. Macca panicked on several occasions too, especially that shot for goal when he had space and just panicked. He was even being given the green light by a team-mate.

The ones who panicked again tonight were the experienced players. A bit annoying as they are supposed to be the calming influence on the young blokes. About the young blokes led by the pied piper from Balmain, Kizza. They were super tonight, Luke Parker is a really very serious mid. Young Shane Biggs in his first game kept Luke Beuist to 2.1 and had 18 possies against Bruist's 11. Bruist had 5 score assists though but the kid played really well on him. Bird played on a wing tonight and wasn't moved when Burgoine got loose and started hurting us, funny that, he nullified Burgione in the GF when he came on the ball. I think horse will do that in the final.

Finally, if we kick to Jesse like we did in the first half he will kick a bag of goals. The problem was we had no alternative when they dropped players into the spot. With Tippett we have a two forward option. Tippett taking the big grabs and leading one way and Jesse leading the other way. I thought Jesse beat Gibson and Lake tonight, it was our delivery that killed him in the second half, dreadful is what I'd call it. The rucks beat Lake too.

Some obvious mistakes,but it'd be churlish to criticise too much after such a cracking game.
I did not expect it to be that close.
Not as good as last year's R23 similarly narrow loss at home , but still a fine match.
I can't help but wonder if KT would have made the difference , given that we had nine less marks I50.
Decent debut from young "Ronnie" , too - he has a bit of poise and looks promising.

IMO, that was the perfect result last night...Spirited, sharp performance....No injuries....Buddy reported....Hawks win....we play them again.

Obviously next week will be a whole different kettle of fish, but we have some goods in's, they may have a big out.

The contrast in our teams energy was palpable...It certainly gives the heavy, pre finals, training load theory plenty of credence.

I told Her Indoors I was going to see The Swans get flogged, so in Horse speak, it was very pleasing to see the much improved movement by the boys.
Both teams can score goals like grease lightning, with the Hawks somewhat better at it than us (27 scoring shots to 20).
They can win without Franklin though, don't worry about that, especially with Rioli back.

A few caveats for these comments:

1. I started watching a live stream just before half time.
2. I thought the Swans we going to be smashed.
3. 2. occured before I knew Tippett or even Smith were out.
4. I thought it would be a dead rubber.
5. I stopped watching the match halfway through the last quarter (as I was satisfied and felt 2. had been proven wrong whatever the result.)
6. I have watched a replay from the corner of my eye (whilst possibly under the influence.)

- Bigg looked ok.
- Cunningham will be a player.
- Buddy will miss at worst 3 down to 2, at best 2 down to 1. (though I'd like to see him get another week for the elbow on Grundy.)
- I think this demonstrates we have 1 tall too many. Reid is OK as he can play as a big HFF, while White plays as an OK CHF.

I hope we aren't flirting with form.

I could say more, but like the Australian 1st XI, I have no idea what our line up will be next week.

We need reinforcements to be a contender.

In addition I would like to say this was the biggest game of misinformation I have seen.

Both Coaches knew they would be playing each other next week in the game that counts, and neither was showing their hand....next week will be infinitely more interesting.
