I haven't really spotted much chitter chatter in this thread, but I just thought I'd ask- how bloody good was Mummy?!?!?!?!?!?!?

He was awesome... And seems to be getting more awesome every game! As do Pyke, White & Tippett. There seems to be some serious, healthy competition between our big men ATM!

Because while he has the height he doesn't have the physicality or the strength to play on tall forwards. That's why the coaches feel more comfortable with Rampe in that role even though he's a good couple of inches shorter than Dre

I think your 1/2 right, he certainly doesn't have the strength for Hale or Roughy, but then Rampe doesn't have the height. Physicality is in the mind, and his recent lack of it (especially after some good efforts against the Toasters Darling and others) is dare I say it . . . UnSwanlike! As Primmy might observe he too needs to find his "mongrel"

I disagree, not about him going missing, he certainly does that, as I said it's just he seems to go missing more when he's playing a receiver/offensive role more than being given a serious 3rd tall roll. I would have liked to have seen Horse send him to Gunstan last Friday night, perhaps this Friday?

Yeah I don't know why they don't just play Everitt as the third tall defender all the time. We'd be pretty solid if they continued to do that. Would like to know why they would move him away from that. He's no Malceski.

Jesse has found his Mongrel, witness his desperate effort on the ground for the first goal. We just had to hang in there with him.

Drey is learning his game, and the coaches are too. All will be well. He wants this big time. He will find his niche.

Rampe is just an unusual find. You don't go out and shop for rookie list players like him. The Swans got lucky over and above the fact he is got lucky playing seniors right off the bat.

Its a game people in the truest sense.

4. White is good, but is not a pack-mark forward. He did well, but is better suited when the main marking assignment goes to Tippett.

I agree with this. One thing White is doing that he didn't do much of before is crashing a pack and bringing the ball to ground. (What LRT used to do in the forward line with us). Doesn't mark it as much as Tippett or Pyke in those situations, but at least he's making a contest.

White plays more like Buddy than Cloke, and just as Buddy has Roughead to take the contested marks in the square, so White needs Tippett or Pyke for those sitaations.

Earlier thus season 'Dre started to play as a true 3rd tall defender, and he began to garner considerable cudos on RWO, more recently he has been playing a more loose/attacking role. Against the Hawks this tendency reached it's acme, 'Dre was setting up on the wing against a team that loads it's forward line with talls.
I feel this to have been to the detriment of the team, we need a serious and accountable 3rd tall defender more than we need a 6ft4inch outside midfielder with with what appears to be serious pressure sensitivity. I can't see Xav or Lockyer being promoted.

I thought both Brandon Jack and Harry Cunnigham were out of their depth. Brandon got caught a bit and he seems to just blaze away when kicking. Seems to have the goods but next year beckons. Harry to me was standing off the game and appeared reluctant to get into the clinches. Very low stats for both.Biggs on the other hand in his first game was fearless and happy to mix it with the best in the comp. Biggs seems to have a good sized tank and could make a handy midfielder.

Jed Lamb is a far better option than BJ or Harry this year.

I have to admit, watching that play I was left thinking "he's probably worth the money for GWS".

Bird did have the fumbles a few times but overall i thought his game was pretty good.

BJ was all over the place in the first qtr, but then seemed to go missing for the rest of the night.
Rohan is getting better each game. How excited was he to kick a goal??

Mitchell was given far too much space i the 2nd half nearly always by himself.
We really need to watch the buddy/Roughie from the taps in front of goal. They were identical and obviously a set play. ( i guess we won't need to worry about buddy next week).

I thought the last qytr came down to our inexperienced guys starting to falter in the heat of the battle, and their experienced guys stepping up a notch.

Hanners Smith and Tippett back will be a bonus. As will Jetta if he can get on the park.

Shiggsy running in gumboots by the end, which is hardly surprising.
Didn't mind BJ's game, he was minding gaps and in and under (maybe why he was missed).
Mitch has hardly played for the last couple of months and I was dead surprised to see him out there. He practiced goal kicking including the round the bend from the 50m line time and time again. Must have been there for 30 minutes or so - they were out there at about 6.30, lots and lots of goal kicking from the boys before the game. Lots. Davo could probably still play to be honest.

Luke is a gem. He knows he is Judes heir apparent. Same attitude. Tight in and under.
Had a lot of time for Drey's efforts. He is becoming more and more assured, and although still inclined to hot potatoe the ball at times, he generally works hard to mop up the mess. Could be slotted in as a swingman a la LRT. He can kick a goal from a long way out when needed.

Red Rohan, the Rooster crowed! What fun to watch him in action and I do not even vaguely think to sanction his exhuberance. Its what we need. A sense of fun in the game.
Looks like Mummy has no intention of going anywhere. Played like his life was on the line.
Macca and Kizz make an odd couple as far as co-captains go, but they read each other.
Harry was not massively evident, but when he made himself known, he was a bit of a force. Like him. Possibilities endless.

Shiggsy. I think we will keep him. I don't know what Jared Crouch is teaching these kids, but its working. Not one newby has gone into the game not knowing what to do or playing with less than natural assurance. I think we should keep Jared too.

Dear Ted - hall of famer than young man. Keep Dane too.

We lost a key position player a couple of hours before the game, must have had to restructure like mad, could have been disasterous, so I must say that I am not exactly disappointed. It could have been a whole lot worse.

The one thing I noted most of all was the fact that not only the senior players but all of the new kids on the block worked their arses off. They ran the game out to the very end. No slacking, always with the mantra set by Kirky "Never give up on us Ken!" (said that in a shocked voice to a friend of mine). The kids ran tired eventually, and that is hardly surprising. But here's the thing. The bones of this team are strong. We have good structure for the future, and I am confident that in a year or two or three we will have another granny in the cupboard. Not this year. But soon. We have got talent as well as application and some fantastic coaches.

Important to remember. Some of these kids are 18/19 and 20, and some playing in their first year and a goodly number off the rookie list for pete's sake! They have a way to go, but the base structure set in the ressies is strong and is the same as in seniors. All in all, I am a proud Swannie Mumma.
