Ludwig has informed the thread that Ladhams played well in the VFL. I’m ready to change my opinion on Ladhams based on Ludwigs recommendation. Ludwig has great knowledge of the ruck craft.

That was some night.

The thing that struck me about our play was the even-ness across the field. Heeney and Mills stood out for me. Paddy McC's first quarter was astounding. Watching him anticipate the play, the flight of the ball, I always felt confident that he was going to take the mark or spoil. His presence and the rapid development of Campbell and Blakey as options for moving out of the back half meant that Rampe and Lloyd were less prominent (a good thing with Lloyd, as he looked rusty). Lloyd's role will be interesting going forward—we're playing a different game to the that of recent years, in which players like him and Malceski before him worked as go-tos and distributors at CHB.

I was worried in the first 10 minutes with Kennedy starting on a wing, particularly when Smith went to him. he was found out on a couple of occasions, and was out of position a couple of times, caught in no-man's-land as the play by-passed him. When he had the chance to do a bit of insider work, his value was apparent. I am still worried that on a wing he will be a risk on grounds like the MCG, and am still curious about how he will be played over the season.

I liked Rowbottom's game, a lot. And I still see Wick's worth as someone with great closing speed who works to close down exit options and to disrupt rebound play. I was a bit worried about McDonald on the chase a couple of times, but am enjoying what a handful our forward contingent is.

I hope that we don't see a raft of COVID protocol outs this week. Buddy would seem the most at risk, but I wouldn't begrudge him a rest anyway. A chance to have a look at Ladhams?

Heeney is a freak. Chad superb. Mills is all grunt and killing Danger, likewise Rowbottom on Parfitt. Love what McLean and Hayward are combining to do on Stewart. Right now, bar a 10 min stretch in that quarter, we’re just harder and more relentless.

Me either! It was weird. It flashed up on the big screen at the ground and I said to my mate: "was that Clarko? was he wearing a Swans scarf??" It was so quick that I wasn't entirely sure and my mate hadn't seen but a bit late they flashed him up again and we were both really surprised and couldn't figure out what to make of it.

He must have lost a bet.

Just home from the game, latest ever finish and I left some plums stewing on the stove.
Cycled home and a neighbour I’d alerted (who was also at the game) got there b4 me to turn it off and they were just reaching critical burn out of the saucepan !
I was so frantic to get to the game and just rushed out .
Unforgettable night, rushed down from the top tier of the Brewongle as Buddy lined it up.
A sea of happy faces , even the Cats fans soaking it all up.
Swans are playing a very good brand of footy .

BS goes over the top sometimes but Chad has become a major fan favourite . The excitement people have when he gets the ball , its real . I saw it first hand on Friday night . People love him , hes an infectious personality and a crowd lifter . The buzz around the scg is huge with him . I noticed this last yr and it was only his 2nd or 3rd game .

I have also heard his team mates love him . When he matures he will captain this team . We will see a Gulden-Jmac-Chad co captaincy . I am not being fanatic , i have heard it from inside the four walls of the club they are that loved in there those guys .

What a privilege to have fantastic leaders still around but already know the future is set in good hands too !

Can largely concur with this.

Mentioned on here before I'm lucky enough to be friends with a couple of non-playing people at the club. I strictly avoid ever asking them for inside gossip, as were friends before all things Swans and it's not the right thing to do. Occasionally though things get mentioned, largely in response to me raving about my favourites or pet subjects!

Haven't heard either way on Chad (but I don't doubt it), but can say Errol is very much as seen as like Mills, as born to it, and they'll let him mature in his own way and it'll happen at the right time. JMac is regarded as effervescent and cheeky, but as professional and disciplined as it gets in his approach to his footy and his learning curve suggests a high footy IQ.

The Swans also let players develop their own taste for it. Heeney had a go in the leadership group, but as I understand it, was apparently happier being an informal leader.

As you say, we're been blessed with a pipeline of leaders for a long time now. We've never had to appoint a Ben Stratton-type, for lack of any real alternatives. Long may it continue.

Completely agree regarding future captaincy material. Errol Gulden just oozes leadership, and Chad Warner’s attack on the ball is Paul Kelly-like.

Warner is a good player and will be a vital player in our teams improvement and possibly will be a captain of the club at some stage but to say he's attack on the ball is Paul Kelly like is a fair bit of a stretch. I know it is easy to forget how good a player was at certain things and say another player is like them but Paul Kelly's attack on the ball was exceptional.

Most ruckman that have come to the Swans in recent times have come ready to play and contribute, but not Ladhams. Ball, Jolly, Mumford, Everette, Pyke, Sinclair and Hickey came to the club and competed hard to get rucking time and contribute. Seaby made an early impact but injuries stopped him.

If not sure what it is with Ladhams?

How can my best friend (who doesn’t work in the industry) say that he’s off the pace in training and then in the reserves he doesn’t make an impact.

All I can say about it is “well done Port”.

Apologies, you’re right. Cal’s first two seasons with us, he played primarily as a forward - Tippett and Naismith carried the ruck load, but with Tippett’s retirement and Naismith’s ACL injury it left Cal as almost our only ruck option for 2018 and 2019.

I believe that Mark Seaby’s final year on the Swans list was 2012 while Sinclair’s 1st year on the list was 2016. I’m not sure why you connected them .

Really? Wow. I stand corrected. I know that Ticketek only had single seats available to purchase on game day.

That’s because Ticketwreck is a lousy seller outlet. Instead of selling seats blocks adjacent to each other, they often leave a single seat between each purchase, and leaving useless single seats between them. It happens all the time. They also seem to sell tickets and then announce none available, only to subsequently release new (& often better) seats. Occasionally they will reallocate your seat. Contacting them via phone is near impossible. Outlets are ok - although they seem to be closing them so they are harder to get to. They often have a fee for printing your own ticket. And occasionally don’t release the tickets for ages after purchasing (I recently bought goswannette a ticket for our first wedding anniversary and I still haven’t received it (luckily I went to an outlet and they printed me a paper ticket receipt that I could give her.

And you’ve given Ladhams 2 games to demonstrate he’s a failure. Lord knows how he’ll jump at any ruck contests with you on his back

I never said Pyke was ready made. I said that he came to the club and competed hard. He had to overcome BT’s scepticism to get there. Still the only guy to score a try against the All Blacks and win an AFL premiership.

On Ladhams. I had him in my round one 2022 Team in late 2021. I’m disappointed he hasn’t made it thus far. Ludwig pointed me to some VFL highlights and he did some good things. Hopefully he’s picked for The Swans team soon.

I’m not sure if Ladhams reads red and white but I’m certain you can’t claim that I’m personally inhibiting his performance.
