My view is that not putting JPK in the centre square is for one or more of these reasons:
1. A deliberate decision for the post-Kennedy era to give our younger players experience.
2. Kennedy is no longer a part of plan A for the centre, but could be there as a plan B if needed if the younger players aren't working out or we're behind and need to try something. Plan A has been working out, so no need for the plan B.
3. Our game plan has evolved for more pace and an aging Kennedy lacks the pace for the game plan.

I feel Kennedy will be retiring after this year. Let's hope the rest of the players help to give Kennedy a send off with a premiership in his last game.

I thought Kennedy was a highly effective player against Geelong (less so against the Giants). He played less in defence, but more up and down the wing. I don't know how McInerney's inevitable (and hopefully imminent) return will accommodate Kennedy playing such a role, but he's still got a fair bit to offer.

I think he (or more accurately, a combination of he, Parker and Mills) does leave the team a bit exposed at centre bounces but less so in stoppage work around the ground. He's not been involved even in the latter over the first two rounds, which does point to a deliberate decision to leave the heavy lifting to others. But I imagine he and the coaches will be tweaking that aspect of his game over the season, depending on other available personnel.

The match committee certainly seem spooked to put Joey into the centre square. It's still experimental at this stage and a lot will depend on how others go throughout the year (They're doing very well so far). I reckon Josh is aware of his place in the team right now and fully understood when he signed on again that if these kids continued on the same trajectory, he might find it hard to keep a spot.

It's a long season and he'll prove his worth to the squad regardless of how many games (or where) he actually plays. Great signs that we can actually afford to approach these types of scenarios.

After watching the Cats Swans replay there were many moments that stood out.

In particular was approx 4mins before the end of the 3rd qtr

When Bud nailed that one in front and a minute later Bud danced thru traffic and ended hooking it down to Heeney who went falling backwards to nail a tough left footer.

For me what stood out was how cooked the cats were and how fast and running on top of the ground was our midfield.

While Warner and a few cats were struggling to break from the ruck 15 seconds before Heeney goaled I saw JR break so hard and so fast from the middle of the field and was in less than 10 seconds about to grab the ball below Heeneys feet before he goaled.

It was unbelievable actually the distance between JR and any other mid in either team. Being the extra player that broke so hard from the middle of the field locked in the ball in our forward 50 and gave us the shear numbers that the Cats couldn't match in defence.

Inspiring.

Where perchance do you find these fabbo stats?

Noticed that they've been using both JPK (more last week than round 1) and Heeney on the wing than in the square - not sure if this is a recognition of their limitations in at the CB or that their physicality is better used coming off the wing.

Papley in my opinion is the Swans best player at the Centre Square Ball Ups. He wins so many clearances in there and propels the Swans forward. His combination of pace, physical strength, ability to anticipate, tackling ability and intensity make him very hard to stop in an open environment where the opposition can’t block the space.

I wouldn’t go that far, but I’ve never minded Paps in there as he’s quite good at it and the odd burst helped mix it up for us as a bit of variety with his leg speed and willingness to go fully offensive.

What I wonder is with the new group like Chad, Gulden, Heeney etc (and hopefully the odd appearance from JMac when he’s back) that are dynamic in their own way, whether we need that from him as much. Maybe it’ll be more a case of saving it for when he’s having a quiet game and needs a run there to get his hands on the ball.

Dont need him though , we have Chad and Gulden at centre bounces , Florent too . Small mids with speed , Papley stays i50 at the talls feet .
