I'm somewhere in between.
My worry is our midfield in a couple of years. The fact is we don't have a midfielder under 23 in whom you can express real confidence. Gus hasn't nailed it; I think Datolli is exciting as a midfield option, but yet to be proven; Kyle is the most likely but still no guarantee as a pure midfielder; Cleary - meh; and who knows what Phillipou will be. And there's nothing exciting in the academy, this year at least.
We'll need to quickly rebuild our stocks in there.

Midfield a shambles!!!! Give me a break. Did you watch the last quarter yesterday? By the way the last time I looked we have won 15 games this year, and it maybe 18 by the end of the Home and Away
Both serviceable, none worth anything near what is being touted but......
As usual Sydney Match Committee not getting the best out of it, any forwards in the top 40 goalkickers rucking ? Zero
Freo are 3 games clear on top and have 3 permanent tall fwds in the Top 20 Goalkickers plus 2 dedicated Rucks.
Regardless of when Grundy was firing, the 20% of time he wasnt rucking would have accounted for 70% of opposition scoring not to mention what it did to our fwd line.
Midfield in shambles, Partime tall fwd line or smalls that arent required to tackle or score, 36yr old undersized key Defender, no wonder we are @@@@@@👍 2Leave a comment:

McLean has performed exactly the way I expected against good teams. He is very good against the likes of Richmond, North, Essendon etc but put him up against good teams like Freo and Adelaide and you see the results. It has happened before and in my opinion you will never win a premiership with him in the team
Armartey has far more upside and played a very important part earlier in the season against good opposition. His game against Brisbane was unacceptable, but did he go into the game carrying an injury.

Club still has 5 x $700k offer on the table for him.
It's Amartey v McLean as one will most likely won't be on our list in 2027.
Club may not be dissatisfied if Amartey is receiving a $1m+ offer from Carlton, as this should trigger a first round compo pick shiould he decide to move as a UFA.
If Amartey stays, Mclean is contracted for 2027 if he requests a trade at year's end which should give us leverage for a 2nd round pick you'd think?
Getting additional picks to help match our Academy bids might be seen by our List Management as more beneficial than hanging onto both players.
Joel will potentially draw the higher pick. Mclean has 5+ weeks to state his case. It's a ruthless business!

5yr deal at Amartey from a rival and not a single comment on here
I hope the Recruiting team has similar sentimentsLeave a comment:

Agreed- apart from Curnow they are not elite, but can be very good though inconsistent. That’s the main issue and in the case of Logan and Joel, mainly due to injuries. Our major problem is clearances. We also need another elite small forward to partner Paps, who unfortunately is more and more injury prone. Are any of our youngsters good enough? I thought Rosas would fill that role but his form has not been good lately.

I don’t think that group of players are much chop - with only Curnow really untouchable - the rest are all replaceable
I’d only trade him if someone really top becomes available. I agree that he’s inconsistent and injury prone, but you need a player his size and agility in our squad. Maybe not every week as he needs to be managed. As far as a new contract is concerned, I hope he will be realistic in his expectations and I’m sure the club will offer him a fair deal. He is certainly not elite at this stage but would prefer to keep him- Charlie, Logan, Hayden and Joel make a pretty good group of forward talls and is essential if we are to be contenders.Leave a comment:

Should be only offered a 2 year deal at bestLeave a comment:

Media speculation is Carlton is one of the teams expressing interest with Armartey. Ironic, as they already have 4 ex-Swans!
Apparently we have assured Joel our 4 and 5 year contract offers will remain on the table, despite missing rest of the H&A season with injury.Leave a comment:

Most teams that are contenders have traded in players from other teams that fill some holes.
we are doing that over the last two years and were ruthless in letting go Florent and Hayward. But Serong and Curnow are not the only ones we need.
we need contested ball winners. Or we need to find them in the draft. At present our Drafts have not targeted these kind of players and we have no trade targets too for contested players.Leave a comment:
