Id say by doing what they did they have actually prejudice the police investigation, imposing an interim suspension then waiting to see if charges were laid would have been the sensible thing to do.

Also dont believe any of this high morality board and club BS, if any other club was in this situation, they rightfully would be under the spotlight at all levels.
Cant pretend there isn't a party culture that is very common at all footy clubs.

This Board reminds me of politicians, shout from the trees about professional conduct and what others are doing wrong and what at we stand for run for cover and deflect as required.
    You miss the point UUA.

The club has performed its own investigation in relation to the clubs own standards - part of which maybe to conduct oneself so as to not bring the players or ultimately the club into disrepute.. The facts as have become known to the club on Monday morning were acted upon. At the time when this all aired on Monday morning, there was no allegation that drugs were involved. This only really became apparent the next day.

By drug testing for coke or whatever substance is alleged to have been taken, in parallel once a police investigation is underway can been seen to prejudice an investigation and so the judicial process. So to separate the two investigations -

    1. The Police Investigation most likely (as has been reported) is in relation to Sexual or Assault (and potentially anything in relation to substances).
    2. The clubs sanctions are in relation to their own internal standards - which have been breached. The club has been at pains to say the penalties are not in relation to the SA and to any substances.

    Hopefully that is clear.

If the players were'nt drug tested the next day then surely the bird has flown on that one.

It will be interesting to see what the fall out re the retention of the 5 players are. Those that have got contracts (long term ones being Heeney and Blakey) vs those that have a decision to make within the next one or two years (Warner and Jordon). Not sure what Bice contract status is.

Independent of the club taking on position on the 5 players individually, I wonder whether the players mindset will be
        a) I am tainted and have lost the trust of the club/playing group/want a "fresh start" and will want to move on.. or
        b) whether they would feel a duty to right their wrongs and prove that they want to redeem themselves at the club.

This I think will give you a fair insight into them as characters and the loyalty to the club

They have screwed up themselves, but the club making a OTT decision without a view to further review pending a Police investigation is throwing them under the bus. This is a bigger circus going fwd than it had to be.

Lost trust with playing group etc etc

There isnt a player in that group that doesn't want to play the 1st final without them. Playing group would have been happy with a Suspension and hefty fine til finals/outcome.

Love the Swans hypocrisy of the AFLW team and overshadowing their first win of the season and first double header..... Clearly no issue talking about the overshadowing or impact of their footy season

My first reaction was a substantial fine with the money going to charity,25,000 plus and then the suspension until the facts are presented in a police report , maybe 2-3 weeks maybe 4-5 weeks.and not say rest of the season. Also talk of drugs found. Why were the 5 players concerned not drug tested? It seems the board care nothing about members and only outside sources. If we lose both finals by 20 goals, who does it benefit? I guess the feminist will be happy even though they will not even watch one minute of the game.If the allegations are true then impose severe penalties, if they are made up stories I will be very upset.
"Woke" media....there's that lazy word again. Just stop it.

Take the assault charge out of it for the moment, the suspensions would have been the same.

It makes me sick to the guts when I hear people using the 'boys will be boys' excuse, or 'everybody has had these wild nights out'. No they haven't! Just because an individual and their mates have done a similar thing doesn't mean everyone else has. I hate people justifying dickhead irresponsible behaviour by claiming it's part of growing up or is normal behaviour among young males. People who undertake dickhead behaviour can only lay claim to one thing - they are a dickhead.

It's all very well to say the players are grown men and should have known better, but for a club to seemingly have little or no boundaries and standards of player conduct, responsibilies and accountability on interstate trips beggars belief. I was secretary of a junior football club for 4 years back in the 90's and when I took the job, it was one of the first things I did as we knew boys would be boys and parents needed accountabilty for their behaviour. If the boys were heard to swear in the rooms, a second offence was see you later. If as Wilson said there were rumours of a drinking cuiture at the club then there is a fair chance people at the club knew. If so why wasn't it stamped out. I'm waiting to see if the club takes any accountabiltiy for what I have said. I doubt it.

Really? How in the hell do you get to that conclusion from "when I heard there was no curfew"?

Of course they have standards on player behaviour relating to everywhere they go and every time they are in out in public. Every player would have had these standards drummed into them.

No curfew just means you can stay up later, it does not mean 'you can do whatever you like'.

I wish these 'it's the clubs fault' calls would just stop.....and you're free to barrack for a different club with a better 'culture' if you can find it. Good luck with that.

Its not boys will be boys, its the probability of the demographic we are talking about.

It makes me sick when someone pretends to understand what its like being a profession athlete and all the offerings that go with it.

People sacrifice and do FIFO work for a swing, come home and go stupid, if its not normal it is very common

Maybe it's time to just hold back a bit on the 'attack the club' to 'protect the players' rhetoric. It's starting to look a bit foolish.
2 Sydney AFLW players went to court and were charged by police with drug possession and recieved a 2 week ban from the AFL for conduct unbecoming

Ginnivan and Bailey Smith recieved 2 week bans for Social Media videos with no positive test.

                          The Old auntie/foxsports is reporting:....

The ABC’s report says police sources allege an “arrangement was reached ... to pay extra to take drugs, believed to be cocaine, from the women’s breasts and buttocks”.

It’s not suggested the Swans players were responsible for the drugs being there or they took them, only that they were there.

Lovely look for the players and the club. I am no saint but it doesn't put the club or the players themselves in a great light if true
