Pure speculation of course, but since the partying revelation I’ve been wondering if such behaviour impacted the team’s performance in the 2024 GF. The sheer unprofessionalism of it all seperate from any criminal investigation is just gobsmacking to me.
They have a gazillion midfielders that we could potentially choose from.

There will be a range of Melbourne clubs happy to throw their hats in the ring too - we should be working hard to extract a pretty decent return should the media speculation prove correct.

I suspect that the club, Blakey and as we all should will take a chill pill. Decisions made in haste do not turn out to be good for all parties.

Notwithstanding, given things that have gone on, Blakey should feel at least embarrassment for his actions - but he should not be hung drawn and quartered until all facts have come to light - which has happened to a great degree. Hence I see where he is coming from, but he should also realise that he put himself in this position. FWIW, given his contract status, I would think that the club holds the upper hand here. I do not believe that the club will trade or move any of these players away as the club holds all the cards.

I suspect that the biggest issue (ignoring any police charges that may or may not eventuate) will be how these players integrate back into the club. This will decide whether they stay with the club or not.

I fully agree and the other factor unknown at this stage is what AFL sanctions may or may not be imposed

I'd be pretty pissed if the AFL came in with a further penalty. Surely the Club suspending 5 players and "torpedoing" a Final Series would be enough.

If Swans were smart they would have given 2 weeks and make the AFL pile on if it was insufficient

Worry about how you look for your supporters instead of how you look to the AFL

I think they'll give anyone not facing criminal charges a couple of extra weeks at the start of next season for bringing the game into disrepute. Perhaps if feeling really mean 3 or 4 weeks - but that would take it beyond the standard couple of games sort of bans given out previously in cases of bringing the game into disrepute.

But it is very unlikely they won't go further than that however, given they won't want to set a precedence that is well over the top, and taking into account the sanctions levied already by the club. I suspect the AFLPA would be massively up in arms if it was a huge additional period too.

These stupid ideas emanating from people like Gerard Whateley that they are all going to get 12 month bans is pure wet dream nonsense imho.

Lol we know you disagree UU. But it is absolute nonsense to think the board didn't take into account the reaction of their supporter base in making their decisions, and solely was worried about 'how you look to the AFL'.

It has been said on ample occasions why your alternative reality of any of those 5 playing again in 2026 was going to be unacceptable on a wide range of grounds. Including to a significant part of the Swans fan base - rightly or wrongly depending on one's view of the world.

Any world in which the AFL was seen to being forced to 'come over the top' like your scenario would just be another thing for the club to get bashed around about. You may not have any time for the Board or agree with their decision making, but they aren't as stupid or as thick as some of your comments suggest they are. They clearly weighed up a lot of factors in their decision making, and I'd argue they felt compelled for it to be the club making the 'statement' with the significant sanctions, not the AFL, because it would reflect a position that they have taken what has happened extremely seriously. I'd argue is in line with what many, many supporters of the club would have expected, which indeed has been reflected in some fairly significant commentary around the issue by some genuinely sensible people (i.e. not the media hacks and their field day).

Not every decision is made solely through the lens of the on field performance aspect. And for many supporters, it isn't always solely about the on field results either.

It isn't 1975 anymore and footy clubs in the modern professional era can't think through that lens alone.

I predict this thread will challenge the Kirk Tippett thread for the length of pages it runs. Cant remember exactly how many pages it ran for, but it was in the hundreds IIRC. It started in 2013 after we won the 2012 flag.

It's a good chance to do so I reckon KSAS! Gosh they were the days.

Still reckon Tippo was harshly judged by a lot at the Swans. Although it has turned out subsequently that we did know Buddy was interested in coming to the swans before we took Tippo, which makes all that period even more intriguing to think about.

I reckon going into next year, if the AFL calls for more ban, without any reason such as drug testing, proven sexual assault case against anyone or anything else that may come up, I think they are delusional.

We have done enough sanctions, faced financial loss, given up a robust chance of premiership and faced supporter erosion. More sanctions would mean burning the AFL market in Sydney. I think they will have to lose their brains to do that.

Almost 3 weeks and all we have heard is they stay back after a 4 am curfew. No other charges. We have lost Blakey and now Chad Warner wants out. well done Board members by kneeling down to media pressure you have destroyed this club for the next five years.

My thoughts exactly. They (AFL) cannot and wont do anymore. To do that would tantamount to harakiri. Set the AFL in Sydney back by 10 years. Furthermore it is not proportionate with other bans handed out to date. The guys who are on the very periphery of this have been dragged through enough. As has the club. This is like a big bad dream.

Even if Blakey goes then so be it...I don't want him to go as I think he is a really good footballer and I love his approach to the game, but **** it he now owes the club and should do the right thing by rolling the sleeves up. It will let you know a bit about his character.

Assuming Blakey and Warner did not accept the sanctions as freely as the club has had us believe

In my opinion, we are losing coaches after the season as well.... They are just lucky enough to be afforded the dignity of post season chatter instead of being stood down immediately

Some need to start living in this world, not some crazy imaginary world where a case involving sexual assault would be sorted in 3 weeks. It is already moving far quicker than such investigations would. It is not a sign in any shape or form about there being a case, not being a case, anything else. It is not something the police will ever take lightly, and that means investigations take significant time.

Let alone some of the other utter drivel that continues to permeate.

Seemingly 2 players appear confident it will be sorted by trade period
