However, i find it interesting since Amartey's decision was first reported yesterday, that his Carlton contract keeps projecting downwards by the media. Last i heard it was now 5 x $800k? down from the original 5 x $1m+.

If accurate, this makes a mockery of the media speculation of there being a $1m difference between the two offers. It's appearing more like $500k.

It will be interesting how Chris Keane approaches this years draft. Ceteris paribus, the consensus on the draft after the first 5 to 8 players seems fairly even, so it may mean that we may pick up someone half decent if indeed we do receive an end of 1st round compensation pick for Joel..

Just occurred to me, with the very slight pay cut Charlie took in return for an extra year, he and Joel will be earning basically the same. I say this with no malice to Joel, but I know who's got the best value for money right now.

Absolutely we are getting the better deal here. I don't blame Joel chasing some dollars and contract longevity.....even he can see the potential liability of his soft tissue injury history, even if Carlton can't! LOL!

While sad to see him go, I'm not overly worried at all with Logan coming of age this year and Curnow certainly proving his worth.....and with the forever likeable McLean always delivering his 100% team first efforts.

The club has now confirmed that Joel will be heading to Carlton. Best of luck to him, I can't fault a young man taking that opportunity if it was indeed a decent chunk of change in difference between the respective offers.

With Mills likely to miss most of next season (Gerard Healy thinks he may return by August), i think this increases Rampe's chances of going round again as cover for him.

I think Mills will still retain the captaincy, with Rowbottom who i think will be named as VC, to lead the side in Mills' absence.
